Coronavirus Diary

Today is Friday, February 18, 2022. As you might know, I’ve been away for the last two days as our kitchen remodeling job got underway on Wednesday. Our iMac has been covered in plastic for the first two days of the renovation, so I was unable to read any of my innumerable junk emails or write this blog – until today. We finally removed some of the items on top of the desk this morning and I’ve now been able to sit at the desk to type. So here I am!

The news surrounding the former demagogue seems to be getting worse and worse in just the last two days. The biggest news out of New York was the ruling by a judge saying that Dumpf and his children may be deposed by New York Attorney General Letitia James within the next three weeks. The depositions have been demanded in the attorney general’s civil investigation of the Dumpf’s business practices, which a New York judge ruled yesterday. This new startling setback for the ex-president is covered in an online article for CNN written by Tierney Sneed and Kara Scannell entitled “Trump and his children may be deposed by New York attorney general, judge rules.”

That judge, New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron, also rejected an attempt to freeze the work of James’, who is investigating whether Dumpf misled lenders, insurers or others in his family business’s financial statements.

This ruling is the latest in a string of legal blows suffered by the former demagogue, as he vainly seeks to fend off investigations and lawsuits entangling his business. Boy, does he now wish he never won the presidency in 2016!

Thus the Trumps were ordered to sit for depositions within 21 days of the judge’s order, while Engoron gave the former dictator 14 days to comply with the attorney general’s demands for certain documents and records. Don’t think the whiny ex-president’s lawyers won’t appeal the decision posthaste and will try to delay, delay, and delay! That is all this subhuman is great at doing since he went into business. But let’s hope and pray he will not succeed this time in paying the piper.

After the sane ruling, James said in a statement that “justice prevailed.” And so it did! James went further to addd, “No one will be permitted to stand in the way of the pursuit of justice, no matter how powerful they are. No one is above the law.”

During yesterday’s hearings, the fair-minded judge remarked as to why the Dumpfs couldn’t just invoke the Fifth Amendment’s protections against self-incrimination and refuse to answer specific questions. Hell, that’s what the former president’s dimwitted son, Eric Trump, did recently when he was deposed, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment 500 – yes, 500 – times.

So it seems that this month has not been a kind one for ll Trumpino with all this negative publicity swirling around his orange head. The month is hardly over even.

I’d love to update you on more bad news for the Victor Orban fan, but the time is a-wasting here. It’s close to midnight already. Elliot and I were busy watching Viola Davis in her star turn in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom that also costarred Chadwick Boseman, who just recently succumbed to cancer last year. I highly recommend the film if you have not already seen it. After now viewing it, I can’t fathom why Boseman did not win the Oscar for his performance posthumously.

Another reason why I’m writing this so late is that we had a lovely dinner with our good friend, “Mark,” at London Lennie’s, on Woodhaven Boulevard. We had a 6:30 reservation and we didn’t return home until close to 8:45 p.m. That’s when we started watching the Netflix film. After the film, we even ventured into Nine Perfect Strangers, a series that’s now on Hulu. It stars Nicole Kidman and an ensemble cast headed by Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale, Luke Evans, and Regina Hall. It’s a drama series based on the novel by Liane Moriarty and it’s set in a holistic wellness center run by Kidman’s character, Masha. We didn’t get very far in the first episode; in fact, we only watched about a half hour.

So have a good weekend. I hope I have a much longer blog tomorrow.

Stay safe and be well.
