Today is Saturday, February 19, 2022. In an eye-opening article for RawStory, the looming prospects for financial ruin in store for the Orange One are spelled out in blunt terms by investigative journalist David Cay Johnston for Tom Boggioni in “Trump could end up broke with only his pensions if Letitia James shuts his business down: David Cay Johnston.” It couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy!
Appearing on MSNBC today, the journalist who has written extensively on the Orange Menace painted a pretty grim future for the former president should he face a civil suit brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James for financial fraud and then she closes his business down.
Talking to host Alex Witt, Johnston who specializes in financial reporting, said the New York City real estate developer could see a lifetime of work acquiring properties stripped away from him leaving him only with his presidential and his TV union pension to live on should he be forced into bankruptcy.
Putting Dumpf’s future in the starkest of terms, Johnston stated to Witt that . . . “at the end of the day, he could be left with nothing but his presidential pension and his union pension from his old TV show because those are the only assets he has that would be protected.” Johnston goes on to say that considering how the former president would brag about his financial holdings, “this is very troubling for him.” Johnston acknowledges that Dumpf could lose not just the Trump Organization, but his apartment, his mansion in Westchester County, his golf courses, Mar-a-Largo, all of that can be at risk in these both criminal and civil proceedings that are coming against him in a number of jurisdictions.” To me, this would be a great fitting end to a would-be despot that attempted to savage democracy. A final accountability if there ever was one. Destroying Dumpf where it really hurts is the most punitive way of ridding him of that great hubris of his. If that ever happened, he would definitely vanish from the world stage as quickly as a heartbeat.
The bane of repugnicans, Hillary Clinton, fought back at the party of do-nothings at the 2022 New York State Democratic Convention this week, trashing the party of Dumpf quite savagely. In an online article for MediaITE by Tommy Christopher entitled “Hillary Clinton Blasts Republicans Who ‘Ban Books’ and ‘Let Donald Trump Trash Our Democracy,'” the former First Lady took a crowbar to the existing repugnican party, making slashing remarks along the way of her diatribe against the once-great party of Lincoln. She made a strong case for voters to not ever vote for repugnicans again, saying, “Democrats are fighting for safer communities and healthier families, with more opportunities for our kids, and schools that are both open and fully funded. Democrats are fighting for better jobs and higher wages for everyone, for health care and housing that doesn’t break the bank. For making life affordable, not just for those at the top. Democrats are fighting for cleaner air to breathe and water to drink. For common sense that tells us vaccines work and climate change is real. Democrats are fighting for the rule of law and for judges who follow it. For the right to vote, the cornerstone of our democracy. For the right to organize because we need unions now more than ever. For the right . . . for the right for women to make our own health care decisions.”
After making a strong case for voting for the only party that has a social policy agenda for Americans, Clinton went on to bash the party of Dumpf for having a very different agenda. She thundered, “Republicans will take tax cuts like the child tax credit away from hardworking families and give them to millionaires. Republicans will claim they are on the side of parents and family values, but they will do nothing for actual parents or families. Nothing on child care, nothing on paid leave. Nothing to help working moms and dads get by and get ahead. They will do nothing to invest in our schools or make college more affordable. They’ll ban books, but do nothing about guns, they’ll make it harder for people to vote, but easier for big corporations to bust unions. They’ll let polluters trash our environment and let Donald Trump trash our democracy.” Well, folks, after hearing this most brutal assessment of our two-party system from someone who knows, why would anyone ever vote repugnican again!
Clinton then concluded her speech by saying that she intends to work her heart out to elect Democrats up and down the ticket this November.
How dare the party of Dumpf malign Hillary with those trumped-up charges of spying on the Dumpf administration when it was already proven false by more probing by investigators. This false story was peddled by right-wing media outlets like Fox News and was eventually dumped when it was proven to be baseless, but the former president is definitely facing some unpleasant realities arising from his true criminality during his one term in office. That is the real story, not Hillary Clinton and her alleged spying on Dumpf!
Moving away from politics to my Saturday where I contemplated driving to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for breakfast and a movie while Elliot rested at home before our debut at Elliot’s cousin’s wedding tomorrow in Kings County. As I started driving to my intended destination, I spied a convoy of cars sporting some kind of flag out of their windows lining up to make the entrance to the very roadway I needed to drive to Williamsburg, so I rerouted myself to go to Jackson Hole instead. I also heard a weather advisory alerting New Yorkers to a snow squall at around 3 p.m. on the radio. Another reason to go somewhere closer to home.
After a filling breakfast of cinnamon raisin French toast, orange juice, and coffee, I drove home, whereupon Elliot chastised me for being a “wuss” for not driving to my intended site because of some vague weather alert. Instead of staying home, I went out again to drive to Williamsburg for a late lunch or whatever and to browse my usual bookstores for something cheap to purchase.
In a nutshell, I did not park the car in Williamsburg to do anything this time. I got spooked by hearing two weather alerts forecasting the same snow incident to occur in the afternoon which would lead to poor visibility on the road. Since I couldn’t find parking anywhere, I felt justified in returning home without stopping. I wanted to get home before the snowfall.
All I have to say is that I did get home before the first snow flakes fell, but when they did, there was nothing as serious as the weather forecasters were predicting. I could have looked harder for a spot in Brooklyn and have done something if I hadn’t listened to the weather alert that seriously. Even though the snow didn’t fall as predicted, the temperatures sure did. The wind picked up when I got home and it got very chilly.
I felt embarrassed when I saw Elliot back in the apartment and I had to explain that I just drove through Williamsburg without stopping. I then vowed to go back probably sometime this week, since I don’t have to wait for the weekend anymore.
I went out one last time to La Boulangerie for some lunch since we have no working kitchen anymore. The stove is sitting, unplugged, in the foyer and the sink is all wrapped up, with the water shut off. Our refrigerator is sitting in the vestibule, with all of the kitchen hardware taking up space in the living room. I’m amazed that Jocelyn adjusted to the change rather well. She does do her business in the litter box now situated next to the refrigerator. She knows where her food tray is too. That she had no problem adjusting to since she is the feline food queen of them all.
After my jaunt to the French pastry shop, I walked home and stayed in for the rest of the day and chatted on the phone with two friends, “Mark,” and “Gene,” from Miami, Florida, before sitting down to write my blog.
Tomorrow I will not write my blog because of the wedding we are attending that starts at 4 and ends at 10 p.m.
So have a great Sunday.
Stay safe and be well.
