Today is Sunday, May 1, 2022. To follow up yesterday’s story about nut job Marjorie Taylor Greene, today Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), one of a pair of sane Republicans on the nine-member House select panel probing the events of January 6, said today that’d he would “love” to ask this representative “a few questions” about a choice text she allegedly sent in the wake of the Capitol riot. This article appeared in the Daily Beast by A.J. McDougall entitled “Adam Kinzinger Calls Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘Insane’ for Playing ‘Victim’ Over Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.”
Greene’s lawyers have maintained the congresswoman has “no recollections” of writing that orthologically challenged text to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows advising him that certain GOP lawmakers wanted then-president Donald Trump to declare “Marshall law.”
The strategy now from team Greene is to insist that she is a “victim” of the insurrection. She is no fool! She knows how bad this looks, even if she misspelled “martial.” So she tells her high-priced lawyers to adopt a strategy of victimhood instead. Kinzinger didn’t buy this new tack from the batshit crazy congresswoman when he appeared on CBS News’ Face the Nation this weekend, saying that when Greene is now confronted with the truth, she’s all of a sudden a victim and a poor, helpless government official who’s just trying to do her job – which these days is nothing of any substance. Kinzinger called her “insane.” He further added, “We want the information. Look, history is not going to judge her or people like her that are buying the big lie well. I firmly believe that.” Let’s hope we get to that moment without civil war breaking out in the country before then.
During last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, The Daily Show Trevor Noah received wide praise for his closing remarks during his speech to the glittery assemble who were sitting at tables maskless for the most part. Noah’s thoughts about hosting the event and freedom of the press in relation to what is going on in Ukraine truly resonated with the distinguished crowd. His comments were covered in an article in indy100 on my smartphone by Greg Evans entitled “Trevor Noah praised for ‘powerful’ closing words at Correspondents’ Dinner.”
In the closing moments of his speech, the South African comedian addressed the journalists in the room by saying: “If you ever doubt your responsibilities, if you ever begin to doubt how meaningful it is, look no further than what’s happening in Ukraine. Look at what’s happening there.” He added, “Journalists are risking and even losing their lives to show the world what is happening. You realize how amazing it is. In America, you have the right to seek the truth and speak the truth, even if it makes people in power uncomfortable. Even if it makes viewers or readers uncomfortable. You understand how amazing that is?”
Interjecting some humor into his serious observations on a free press here, Noah turned to the President and joked, “I stood here tonight and I made fun of the President of the United States and I’m going to be fine. I’m going to be fine, right?”
After that little aside, Noah returned to the serious point he was making. Noah then compared the freedom that American journalists have compared to Russian journalists who do not. He then muses if Russian journalists had the same freedoms enjoyed by American reporters, would they be using them in the same way that American journalists do. Noah’s thoughts have since gone viral and have been universally praised for his thoughtful observations of the power of the Fourth Estate.
In an eye-opening article in today’s online edition of Second Nexus, the depth of evidence tying current members of Congress to both the violent insurrection at the Capitol and the “soft coup” conspiracy to overturn the election under the Eastman plan is revealed in which the January 6 Committee publicly disclosed the names of these Congress members for the first time. I would dare say that some names on this infamous list should come as no surprise to most people wholly invested in the story, names like Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Mo Brooks (R-AL), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Louis Gohmert (R-TX), Paul Gosar (R-AZ) – snicker, snicker – Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Jim Jordan (R-OH). There are three other names on the list I do not recognize. That doesn’t leave them in the clear at all. Just because we don’t recognize their names. They are all still culpable.
The article was written by Jay Kuo and entitled “The Jan 6 Committee Has Linked Key Members of Congress to the Plot to Overturn the Election.” Last Friday, the Committee filed a major, 248-page filing in federal court revealing the names of these potential insurrectionists for the first time, which has shaken up Washington because of the names named. These revelations are likely to underscore the gravity of public hearings to begin this summer, which Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) of the Committee recently claimed “will tell a story that will nearly blow the roof off the House.” Let’s sincerely hope so.
What is included in the 248-page filing is testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House adviser to Mark Meadows, who placed several members of the Freedom Caucus and their allies in specific discussions during White House meetings leading up to January 6.
Two key points were discussed by the alleged Congressional coconspirators and the Dumpf White House: the intentional use of the mob as a way to pressure Congress to overturn the election and the Eastman “soft coup” involving alternative slates of electors and an unconstitutional decree by then-Vice President Mike Pence.
The members on the list just provided here were apparently present during a December 21, 2020, meeting that included Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, and certain Freedom Caucus members and their allies to openly discuss the idea of encouraging Dumpf’s supporters to march to the Capitol from the Ellipse on January 6. Hutchinson testified that the current head of the Freedom Caucus, Rep. Perry (who is also on the list), endorsed the idea, with not one person voting no. How terrible is that! Not one person present thought it was a bad idea and that it could end in violence.
What could sink both Meadows and Dumpf is the advance knowledge that both had with respect to having a mob go up to the Capitol. Meadows actually revealed this to Hutchinson “in casual conversation” that the plan was to march upon the Capitol and that people knew it. Hutchinson apparently heard the Chief of Staff say, “Oh, we’re going to have this big rally.” He added, “People are talking about it on social media. They’re going to go up to the Capitol.” Before we condemn the whole lot for their involvement in participating in this plot to overturn the election, we must hope that there are corroborating witnesses and other documents that shore up Hutchinson’s allegations here.
Another way that Meadows and the Freedom Caucus members were also actively discussing and assisting with another key part of the Eastman plan: false slates of electors submitted by Republicans in the swing states. “Meadows received text messages and emails concerning this plan, which one Member of Congress acknowledged was ‘highly controversial’ and to which Meadows responded, ‘I love it.'” Meadows and members of Congress were also specifically advised by White House counsel that efforts to generate false certificates did not comply with the law. Hutchinson’s testimony again places members of Congress in on conversations around the Vice President exceeding his constitutionally prescribed role.
it would seem from these transcripts of conversations with this adviser to Dumpf’s chief of staff that these current members of Congress could be in very hot water. It could be time for them to engage the advice of their lawyers as we near the public hearing date of June 9 in which their names will be made known to everyone in the country. Will people forgive them for their machinations that ultimately led to the death of five people on that infamous day and to the divisiveness still apparent in this country as a result of their infernal plot? I should hope not.
It’s another week. Hope the weather mirrors what the weather should be in May.
Stay safe and be well.
