Coronavirus Diary

Today is Sunday, May 15, 2022. Today it has been revealed that Fox News host “Fucker” Carlson and others of his ilk bare some responsibility for the Buffalo massacre that occurred yesterday, where 10 innocent victims were lost to a raging 18-year-old white supremacist. The suspect, whose name I won’t mention here (even though I errantly did yesterday; I’m sorry for that error), detailed his theories in a rambling manifesto that mentioned the “great replacement theory,” which is now a mainstream GOP talking point that continues to radicalize young men to commit murder. One of the main proponents of this absurd conspiracy theory is, of course, the Fucker himself on his news show that continues to be the largest-rated “news” show on the air. An angry columnist for the Daily Beast has written an online opinion piece today in which he asserts that repugnicans “must answer for ‘great replacement theory’ violence,” and his name is Wajahat Ali. I and, I’m sure, many other people support his declaration that these repulsive proponents of such a cockamamie theory should bear some responsibility for inciting this senseless violence.

In the first paragraph, Ali writes “Republicans and the conservative media ecosystem have to answer for the blood on their hands.” It can’t be more direct than this! He maintains that these dangerous parroters of this insane theory, people like Fucker Carlson, and many other lawmakers, even, continue to promote this nonsense that the white race is being supplanted by people of color or other marginalized groups; thus Asians, Muslims, Jews, and even members of the LGBTQ+ community have found themselves targets of mostly white, deranged gunmen for the past few years. It’s time for this insanity to stop and people of all colors and stripes must demand repercussions for someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene or Matt Gaetz who continue to bear no accountability for their despicable utterances. It’s time that we demand Democrats go on the offensive against the spewing of this hate speech on the part of their Trump colleagues, since they are members of the Trump party, and nothing else, and their rank pursuit of votes, profit, and ratings, as in the case of Fox News and other deplorable outlets. Wouldn’t it be wonderful in a fantasy situation if Americans of all shapes, creeds, and political persuasion would just decide to boycott Fucker Carlson’s show until he was fired by the network. I know I’m too naive to believe this could ever happen in our divisive profit-driven world, but as I said, it’s a great fantasy.

Ali goes on to say that if repugnican leaders like the weasel Kevin McCarthy (the biggest Dumpf sycophant on two legs) and “conservative media stars refuse to explicitly renounce this white supremacist conspiracy, condemn it, and dissociate themselves from its peddlers, it’s fair to conclude they are entirely complicit with its message.”

The opinion writer also calls on all journalists and reporters to repeatedly hound repugnican officials with follow-up questions about this national threat. If Democrats and even President Joe Biden could still be asked ridiculous questions about “defunding the police,” which is not even a Democratic position at all, or even about Critical Race Theory (CRT), “even after it was revealed to be a bad-faith Trojan horse created by right-wing activists to incite racial panic and anxiety.” And, as must people know, this horrible strategy has actually won votes in some gubernatorial elections already.

I wholeheartedly support the line of questioning of repugnican leaders suggested by Ali, which is essentially composed of several questions:

  1. “Do you believe in the replacement theory?” (Let’s see McCarthy squirm out of answering this query honestly.)
  2. “Do you condemn the replacement theory, or do you support the ideology that has inspired numerous mass terrorists?”
  3. “If you do condemn it, then why are you and your colleagues repeating it?” (Wouldn’t you just love that blonde kook Greene actually contorting herself in a pretzel over answering this question with a straight answer?)

Ali points to the numerous attacks against Jews, Muslims, Mexicans, and others all executed by madmen radicalized by the same conspiracy. This time, this mass murderer directed his hate specifically toward men and women of color, whom he blamed for weakening and replacing his people. Couldn’t he have just looked at birth rates that have declined precipitously in “people of his particular persuasion?” That would have explained this phenomenon to some degree.

The actions of this one individual are clearly the work of a white nationalist, fascist, Neo-Nazi, and anti-Semite, terms he himself used to describe himself, so Ali would prefer it then that his media colleagues not try to whitewash the behavior of yet another white supremacist terrorist as being a “lone wolf” or even infantilize him as a troubled, young man. The gunman describes his attack as an act of terrorism, which he rationalizes as a “partisan action against an occupying force.”

One of those people this homegrown terrorist deemed as an “occupying force” was 86-year-old Ruth Winfield, a grandmother who was simply living her life, bothering no one, and shopping at the grocery store on that cruel day. Isn’t this a crying shame? Should this poor woman have been perceived as an enemy that needed to be eliminated? To adherents of this infernal theory, she would have been considered the enemy nevertheless. These screwy supporters believe that “Jews are the head of a nefarious, international cabal who are deliberately using Blacks, Muslims, immigrants of color, feminists, and LGBTQ+ members to infiltrate, weaken and eventually replace ‘Western’ civilization – which is a euphemism for white people.” This bullshit was uttered by those people favored by the ex-dictator-to-be during the white supremacist rally held in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017, which resulted in the death of a counterprotester, where demonstrators walked around with tiki torches and chanted “Jews will not replace us.” This outrageous theory also sounds eerily like what those nuts who embrace the conspiracy theory of QAnon believe.

Ali then goes on to condemn the host of that Fox News show, Fucker Carlson, for repeating the tenets of the “great replacement theory” on his program, which is exactly what fueled the Buffalo terorrist to commit his heinous act. To offer real corroboration on how dangerous Carlson really is and how influential he is among the outer fringes of society, Ali quotes the founder of the neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer, Andrew Anglin, who has said, “Tucker Carlson is literally our greatest ally.”

A more startling fact is that, according to a poll by the Associated Press and NORC, is that nearly half of those calling themselves repugnican believe in this theory. I repeat this shocking statistic again: Half of those in the repugnican party believe in this conspiracy nonsense.

A sorry quote from the analysis is this, “Thanks, in part, to Carlson, white nationalism is now a moderate, mainstream GOP position.”

This theory has been attributed, as I said, to representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, who has been estranged from his own siblings for years over his rampant extremism, and now Rep. Elise Stefanik, the third highest-ranking repugnican leader. She has been condemned by Ali over buying Facebook ads last year in which she promoted the deplorable theory. Ali calls Stefanik out for ideologically giving the bullets to Robert Bowers who killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue because he wanted to punish the Jews for helping the “invaders.” He calls her out for doing the same for Brenton Terrant, the Christchurch terrorist who killed more than 50 Muslims, who supposedly served as direct inspiration for the Buffalo gunman. This is the same representative who also promoted the QAnon conspiracy earlier this week when she tweeted that her Democratic colleagues aligned with “pedo-grifters.” (Whatever that stupid statement actually means.) There should be a call for this crazy lady’s removal from office, actually. Where is the general condemnation then from Democrats over her incendiary comments here?

Everyone should remember this quote that reviles today’s typical repugnican party representative: “Although these Republican hatemongers and elected officials don’t pull the trigger, they are providing the ideological bullets.” So whenever there is another one of these terrible episodes in the near future, you can point the finger of blame at either Rep. Stefanik, Greene, or Gosar, or even Carlson. Or any other repugnican lawmaker who spouts this far-right rhetoric.

Ali concludes his insightful analysis by exhorting his media colleagues to begin hounding the right-wing with the questions mentioned earlier in order to get a truthful picture (if that even exists with these people anymore – who still believe Dumpf won the 2020 election) of where they stand with homegrown terrorism that they themselves gleefully sow, as they lead a generation of disaffected, white men down a bloody path to save themselves from the “invaders.”

Let’s see if there will be some momentum in criticizing this little man on Fox News from respected media representatives in response to this analysis. Will we ever find out if this man has any shame? Recently, he actually posted a picture of himself widely smiling like a cheshire cat when he was “honored” with a three-part series of articles in The New York Times on his meteoric career with the conservative news network that was indubitably critical of his influence in peddling racist theories to his viewers. It looks like I already answered my own question. The only thing that would wipe out his grin would be cancellation of his show. We know this won’t happen anytime soon, regretfully.

Time to wish everyone then a nice week.

Stay safe and be well.
