Today is Wednesday, June 29, 2022. The repercussions caused by Cassidy Hutchinson’s devastating testimony before the House select committee investigating Dumpf’s January 6, 2021 insurrection are being felt the day after! In an op-ed today, the Editorial Board for the Washington Examiner declared that Hutchinson’s damning testimony “ought to ring the death knell for former President Donald Trump’s political career.” Legendary journalist Bob Woodward said the same thing to Wolf Blitzer on CNN in a clip in which he stated that the January 6 committee just handed down Dumpf’s “political obituary” with Hutchinson’s appearance before the panel probing the details behind the January 6 siege at the Capitol.
This assessment of Dumpf’s future fortunes appears in an online RawStory article by Sky Palma entitled “Conservative publication labels Trump ‘unfit for power again’ in scathing editorial.” The Board writes, “In short, Hutchinson was a conservative Trumpism true believer and a tremendously credible one at that. She did not overstate things, did not seem to be seeking attention, and was very precise about how and why she knew what she related and about which testimony was firsthand and which was secondhand but able to be corroborated.”
“As the Board points out, the young aide gave compelling accounts about how certain figures in the Trump White House likely knew violence would take place at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and how Trump was uncaring, and even supportive of, rioters chanting for the hanging of then-Vice President Mike Pence.”
The editorial went on to relate how Dumpf repeatedly insisted that he himself should join his rabid supporters at the Capitol – even after being informed the crowd contained armed elements and that it was breaching the perimeter against an undermanned U.S. Capitol Police force. Dumpf couldn’t care less, as Hutchinson so brilliantly pointed out.
In the wake of Hutchinson’s defamatory presentation to the panel, the Board concluded that “Trump is a disgrace” and repugnicans have far better options in 2024 – like would-be fascist Ron DeSantis who is worse than this bumbling, asinine clown. At least DeSantis has a brain, but a very bigoted, homophobic one, at that!
A reasonable consequence from yesterday’s blockbuster testimony by Cassidy Hutchinson is the news that the House select committee has now issued a subpoena to compel testimony from Pat Cipollone, former President Dumpf’s White House counsel. Cipollone has long been considered a key witness by the committee, but he has resisted talking further with the panel after previously sitting for a closed-door interview on April 13.
So let’s see if this very bedrock conservative for the previous president will do the right thing and offer conclusive testimony against his former orange-haired boss that will surely seal his political obituary forever. Witnesses who have already testified before the committee have repeatedly mentioned Cipollone as someone who can shed light on key events inside the Dumpf White House leading up to, on, and after January 6, 2021.
As presented in yesterday’s testimony, it was Mr. Cipollone who told Dumpf’s catatonic Chief of Staff Mark Meadows who seemed inert during all of this mayhem that “something needs to be done or people are going to die and the blood’s going to be on your fucking hands. This is getting out of control. I’m going down there.”
Vice Chair Liz Cheney tweeted yesterday before the subpoena was announced that “as we heard yesterday, WH counsel Pat Cipollone had significant concerns re. Trump’s Jan. 6 activities. It’s time for Mr. Cipollone to testify on the record. Any concerns he has about the institutional interests of his prior office are outweighed by the need for his testimony.” Let’s see if Cipollone will do the right thing and present himself in the mold of former White House lawyer John Dean did during the spectacular Watergate hearings almost 50 years ago.
I’m happy to report that today marked the ultimate end to sprucing up the kitchen, as Elliot and I took out items from our overhead cabinets and organized them accordingly, also cleaning them in the bargain. The living room is now devoid of clutter and is back to its pristine self. The only thing left is putting up Venetian blinds in the kitchen window, which we are still waiting on. Other than that, the kitchen is now finished – after almost 4 months of constant agitation and tension. As it seems to be many people’s experience, we were not unique in having a project this size to take on such protracted proportions. As I’ve mentioned to many friends and acquaintances, “Versailles was built in less time than our kitchen.” We do have to recognize that we made missteps along the way as well, the main one being that we paid our failed contractor “Cameron” at the start of the job rather than withhold a percentage of the payment to ensure that he would finish the job. I failed to mention that we had to bring in an outside electrician to undo what he put in – a light under the cabinets by the sink and a variegated light under the sink which we didn’t even ask for. At first, the lights did work, but after a week or so, I noticed there was no power anymore; the range hood that is on the same line failed to work again, so it was imperative to have someone come in to repair what Cameron did. We did try the building electrician, but he failed to get back to us within a reasonable period. Therefore, the bill that I asked the electrician to prepare for his services is what I would like to present to Cameron whenever we have the opportunity to confront him. However, we are not rushing to see him anymore, since we are so dissatisfied with him as a man of honor. Last week, Elliot texted him that his services were no longer needed, even though he was supposed to return this past Monday. There was no guarantee that he would even do that, so that convinced us even more to get him the hell out of the kitchen and use other honorable professionals to finish the job. And so they did! Within a day or two and without much fuss. Cameron had already informed us that he still needed a week to finish the project, which I now believe was an excessive length of time. The carpenter and the wall paperer both took about two days to finish their respective work which is certainly not a week’s time.
Now we can enjoy the summer and not to have to worry about getting our contractor back from whatever rabbit hole he fell into to get him to come back to finish the job that he started in February.
Today I also hoped to meet up with my British journalist acquaintance “Jared” who was in the city covering the Ghislaine Maxwell and the R. Kelly verdicts for Sky News, but he was too engaged in the latter story to be able to meet me afterward. I had met him in December when he first came in to cover the Maxwell trial. This is the young man Elliot and I met originally on the Queen Mary 2 in August 2016 when he was with his late husband “Gary.” I have been in touch with him off and on through the years; I thought we would see him when we visit London in mid-July, but he texted me that he was spending the summer in our country instead. What irony! Today would have been an ideal day with which to meet up, but it was sadly not meant to be.
Instead, Elliot and I invited our good friend “Mark” to accompany us to a new restaurant in Floral Park called The Harrison. We picked Mark up at his building at 5:30 and drove out to 86 South Tyson Avenue where the restaurant is located. We were able to be seated, despite not having a reservation. All in all, all three of us were impressed by the efficiency of the waitstaff and the quality of the cuisine offered on the menu. We were introduced to the affable manager named Steven who extended his hand for all of us to shake. We did say to him at the conclusion of our meal that we would return very soon. And we will!
So that’s that.
Stay safe and be well.
