Today is Monday, July 11, 2022. Today we learn that Dumpf loyalist and sycophant Lindsey Graham has been ordered by a Fulton County judge to appear before a special grand jury investigating his pal for alleged election tampering. According to Jose Pagliery of The Daily Beast, the judge’s order was filed on Friday. This new demand for the South Carolina senator to appear before a grand jury to offer mandatory testimony is covered in an online RawStory article by David Edwards entitled “Judge orders Lindsey Graham to appear before grand jury in Georgia election tampering case.” Pagliery reported that the judge called Graham ‘a necessary and material witness’ who can’t dodge grand jury testimony.”
The son of a bitch is still expected to fight the subpoena from his home state of South Carolina. Let’s hope this sniveling coward will be forced to appear before the grand jury to tell the panel what he knew about election tampering being conducted on behalf of the former dictator-to-be. He is scheduled to appear on August 2.
In anticipation of tomorrow’s new January 6 committee hearing, Mary Trump, niece to the Donald, appeared on MSNBC over the weekend to offer her latest take on the January 6 hearings and why she’s fairly confident her crazy uncle is “terrified” right now. And terrified he should be! Appearing on MSNBC’s The Katie Phang Show, Mary said, “To say that Donald is terrified is accurate and also an understatement.” She further admitted, “I think this might be the first time in his entire life that even he can’t deny the walls may indeed be closing in. The amount of evidence that we see coming out of these hearings is overwhelming.”
Mary noted the importance of the witnesses who are speaking to the committee who have had unprecedented access to Trump in the days leading up to and immediately following January 6, most notably former White House counsel Pat Cipollone who met with the panel for over eight hours on Friday. His testimony will be presented to the public in upcoming hearings. So far, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a member of the January 6 select committee, said Cipollone “did not contradict” the testimony of previous witnesses. This sounds very ominous for the Constitution-challenged ex-president.
Mary concluded her assessment of her uncle’s legal and civil entanglements by saying “It would be almost unimaginable at this point if he got out of all of the legal and civil charges against him.” Unfortunately, she added this coda, that she’s not “entirely confident there will be consequences” for her uncle in the long run. Let’s hope we prove her wrong this time.
Tomorrow’s afternoon session will focus on how the violent mob came together and the role of extremist groups, calling on certain members of those extremist organizations as witnesses. Rachel Maddow tonight opined that many of those witnesses might be sporting visible tattoos as they present their damaging testimony. The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Capitol Hill. I intend to watch the hearing in real time or watch it later after taping it.
Another development in the continuing January 6 investigation is this nugget of information: former Dumpf strategist and perennially rumpled Steve Bannon is now agreeing to offer his version of the truth to the House select committee probing the events of January 6. It would seem that Bannon’s usual bravado has been knocked down a peg in his willingness to testify before the committee. His trial for contempt of Congress goes on a week from today. Would he claim executive privilege like he once did as to why he wouldn’t testify in the first place? Don’t you think that his testimony would further terrify the Orange Menace since he was the real mastermind behind the germaphobic ex-president? As you recall, Bannon claimed executive privilege the first time he was subpoenaed. The committee rejected his reason for not complying with its summons and held him in contempt of Congress. Maybe he believes he won’t go on trial if he now expresses his desire to testify before the committee, but that won’t delay the proceeding at all. It is still supposed to proceed on time.
So who knows what new bombshells will be revealed during tomorrow’s seventh (?) hearing? They could be just as explosive as the last one when Cassidy Hutchinson testified.
Enjoy tomorrow’s session.
Stay safe and be well.
