Today is Sunday, August 14, 2022. As a sign that our national reality has been turned upside down and sideways since the emergence of Trumpism, reports have circulated that the second Teflon Don (if for a little while longer, God willing!) was actually buoyant over the FBI “raid” conducted on his megamansion in Florida on August 8, as the rank and file of the party fashioned in his image rallied around to defend him, even if acts of espionage might be bandied around here. This pathological liar and psychopath actually believed that the search warrant would benefit him, as it originally looked as if the Justice Department had overreached. But that buoyant mood might finally be dissipating as the true seriousness of the charges Dumpf might be facing has resulted in a little more silence on the part of his once-loyal defenders. This situation is reported in an online article for Business Insider by Alia Shoaib entitled “Trump’s initially ‘upbeat’ mood about the FBI’s Mar-a-Largo raid turned dark when GOP support began to wane, report says.”
The original upbeat mood of the former insurrectionist was reported in The Washington Post. Now, though, GOP support has begun to wane following reports that Dumpf might have taken classified documents concerning nuclear documents. Oh boy, shouldn’t there finally be a line when the realization of Dumpf’s perfidy should be apparent to anyone who truly has the interests of the country at heart? And isn’t this the time to break that iron grip? The rest of us who have never been in this arsonist’s circle now wonder if this severing of affection will ultimately happen.
So one friend who has spoken to the Washington Post multiple times said that Dumpf believed the “raid” would cause Republicans to rally around him and would create more support for a potential presidential bid in 2024.
While repugnicans initially spoke out strongly against the raid, with some asinine voices among them calling for defunding the FBI, their public support has become more muted when records unsealed on Friday revealed that the bureau had seized 11 sets of classified documents from Mar-a-Largo. Reports suggest now that repugnicans are struggling to respond to the revelations, and some Dumpf allies are starting to distance themselves.
But this turning away from America’s current nightmare has not been reflected in all circles, as some of Dumpf’s most loyal allies such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have still voiced their total support for him. Even his nonfamous supporters, the rabble of mostly white, working-class bigoted men and women have continued to back him, with users of his inanely named Truth Social media platform calling for civil war and advocating for violence against the FBI, as NBC has reported.
One troubling aspect of that devotion occurred on Saturday when armed supporters of the former president protested outside the FBI office in Phoenix, Arizona, Fox 10 Phoenix relayed.
But all during the first announcement of the FBI search warrant on Mar-a-Largo, the desperateness of the former president as to why those records were found at his private compound has become all so apparent as his story continues to change, making him look exceedingly ridiculous. He has baselessly alluded to the notion that evidence was falsely planted by the FBI, falsely accused former President Barack Obama of doing the same, and claimed that the documents he seized were automatically declassified. All bullshit coming from the supreme bullshitter of the moment!
Let’s end on a lighter but more frightening note because it involves what an elected person to Congress actually believes – and tells other uninformed people: As for what one of these rabid Dumpf loyalists is up to, you must hear the latest stupid nonsense spewing from the mouth of Marjorie Taylor Greene, who told an audience of equally confused people that solar and wind energy don’t work at night, which prompted online mockery on Twitter from more savvy users.
Greene took to the stage to suggest that if the United States takes measures to move to the use of more renewable energy, including wind turbines and solar panels, it would lead to refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners becoming unusable. The Georgia representative’s most recent faux pas appeared in the online Independent in an article by Gustaf Kilander entitled “Marjorie Taylor Greene mocked for suggesting solar and wind energy don’t work at night.”
Greene had the sagacity to suggest that electric lights would only work during the day and that there wouldn’t be sufficient power for all the appliances in a modern home. Boy, isn’t this supposed congressperson’s bulb out for heaven’s sake!
Here are Greene’s unexpurgated quotes: “Thank God for air conditioning. Let’s talk about refrigerators. I personally like my refrigerator. I know you all like yours. What about washing machines and dryers? Lord please God don’t make me scrub clothes in a bucket and have to hang them out on a line when we switch to wind turbines and solar panels.” She nonsensically added, “I’m gonna be really pissed off about that. I mean, how absurd is this? I like the lights on. I wanna stay up later at night. I don’t wanna have to go to bed when the sun sets. It’s so silly! I mean, all of this is insane.” Again, I must ask, “Is this bimbo for real?”
Reaction to the representative’s comments was immediate and unsurprisingly condemnatory. Fred Wellman, a political advisor, wrote: “She thinks solar power only works when it’s sunny and wind only works when it’s blowing. What an absolute idiot.”
Democratic Tennessee State Representative Gloria Johnson added, “Oh my stars and bless her heart, she is that dumb y’all.”
Twitter user David Samson writes, “You can not teach this level of dumb. Nor can you fix it. Don’t bother telling her that solar powered lights don’t automatically turn off at night. You will just confuse her.” Another Twitter user, Andrea, wrote, “She’s stupid, the people listening in the room are stupid. There is nothing you or I could say to change their stupid minds. The only power we have against these people is our vote. Please, for the love of god, use it.” Very sensible advice coming from a very sensible woman.
Doesn’t the pronouncements from this very stupid Congressperson just beg someone to finally tell her to fuck off? I’m wondering if there is a person out there who might just put a smile on many a reader’s face by writing a compendium of her most quotable inanities as in the example set forth by Jacob Weisberg who wrote The Ultimate George W. Bushisms from Simon & Schuster, published in 2007. Here an intrepid writer could write a similar book calling it The Ultimate Guide to Greenisms, or some such title, which would contain all of the inane quotes ever spouted by this airhead. It would probably make a bundle and shoot to The New York Times bestseller lists in a heartbeat.
Anyway, it’s getting late here.
Have a very nice week.
Stay safe and be well.
