Today is Monday, August 29, 2022, two days before the beginning of September and the waning of the summer season as students go back to school all over the country. Today “a sad, little man” (as declared by MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace) by the name of Lindsey Graham made a less-than-veiled threat to the agencies investigating the former president when he predicted that there will be riots in the streets if “Julius” Dumpf is prosecuted. He said, “There will literally be riots in the street,” the pugnacious, baby-faced fascist predicted on “infotainment” outlet Fox News. This is the exact reason why this man needs to be prosecuted. The ramifications if he is not prosecuted are more monumental.
Today MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough called out Republican hypocrisy on rioting after Graham made his obnoxious comment about riots breaking out if the ex-president is indicted. He spent most of today’s morning program appropriately bashing Graham for suggesting rioting would be warranted if Teflon Don were to face prosecution. Scarborough reminded his audience how Graham had stepped off – albeit very briefly – the Dumpf train after the siege on January 6, 2021, after he expressed concern about the attack on the Capitol. This sad, little man changed his mind when three people and a hound chased him in Washington National Airport, whereupon he quickly got back on the Dumpf train. Graham was supremely disinterested in getting to the roots of the January siege after that incident gave him the jitters.
Scarborough then says, “But now, he is worried about riots in the future, coming from Republicans, coming from his party, coming from Donald Trump supporters?” He lambasted the party of Dumpf for incessantly talking about riots, Black Lives Matter riots, riots on the left; it was as if there were no peaceful marches at all [and there were; the only riots, folks, came from the far right, without question]. But these repugnicans, Scarborough points out, are fine when Dumpf riots are actually putting democracy at risk, “when they’re trying to overturn an election result.” He noted, “Lindsey is even fine threatening riots, saying, you know, Trump supporters will riot in the streets, there will be violence if he is held to account, if he broke the law.”
The early morning news host said those threats coming from GOP lawmakers were dangerous, and he warned those dimwitted, foolish Dumpf supporters that they would suffer the same fate as the January 6 rioters if they took to the streets to commit violence to protest criminal prosecution of a true felon.
Scarborough saved his blistering criticism of this so-called “lawmaker” for the end by stating, “If these Republicans were true leaders and the true focus was the United States of America and was serving our country, they would lead and say, ‘when someone has done something wrong, when someone has threatened democracy, when top-secret documents that threaten our nation and lives are being stolen from our U.S. government, from our country, one must be held to account.'” So we must assume that Lindsey Graham is no leader. He is a just a cheap shill for a traitorous ex-president, it seems.
Former GOP strategist Rick Wilson excoriated ‘DC elites’ for being too afraid of Dumpf’s violent supporters as a federal indictment seems to be possibly imminent for the national security risk of an ex-president. An online article for RawStory written by Matthew Chapman entitled ‘Poison for the republic’: Rick Wilson scorches ‘DC elites’ for being too afraid of Trump’s violent supporters.”
Wilson, who has written a seminal book on Dumpf entitled Everything Trump Touches Dies: A Republican Strategist Gets Real About the Worst President Ever, now took to Twitter to slam Beltway pundits and politicians for being too apprehensive of the fallout from a potential prosecution of the beleaguered ex-president and urged them to be clear-eyed about the scope of Dumpf’s wrongdoing – and the worse consequences of doing nothing.
In his declaration, Wilson states, “The slow drumbeat of Authoritarian Classic Hits is increasing in tempo as the DC elites and the media fall into the trap. Variations of ‘Well, if Trump is indicted and prosecuted, we’ll have blood in the streets’ is an increasingly common trope.” He further adds, “This accepts the predicates of the authoritarian side; the Dear Leader is above justice. It acknowledges the advantage of a party/movement willing and proven to use political violence to achieve electoral ends. This is a poison for the Republic and for democracy. It accepts the false assertion that any arm of government that seeks to hold Trump not to political but ‘legal’ account is inherently corrupt, political, and malevolent.”
The former GOP strategist said that the Department of Justice is doing its job, but that “America, however, is being tested.” He noted that Dumpf’s “history of escaping justice is notable and depressing.” He sadly noted that it is “one of his superpowers.”
The media came in for Wilson’s umbrage as well for responding to the whole saga with a “back-and-forth, both sides-have-a-point, folks.” Wilson says “the danger of his people rising up if he’s indicted, prosecuted, and imprisoned is far, far less consequential than walking away from justice.” So if these MAGA warriors decide to brandish firearms, Wilson says we face a choice: collapse in the dark or do the hard, correct things to save America from a (not semi) fascist movement.” He acknowledged that the New Civil War is already here, but it’s just not evenly distributed yet.
As for my first story concerning Graham’s hideous comment, a whole lot of Twitter users called out the South Carolina Senator for his inflammatory prediction of riots occurring if the Orange Menace were to be prosecuted. One Twitter user said that Graham should be censured. Former acting Attorney General for National Security Mary McCord called Graham’s comment a threat. She wrote, “It is incredibly irresponsible for an elected official to make veiled threats of violence just as law enforcement and the DOJ” do their jobs. Another Twitter user said that Graham should be “sanctioned on the floor this morning.” He added, “If he doesn’t believe in the very principles of our democracy, then quit now, and find another job.” Graham couldn’t find another job if his life depended on it!
While most people condemned Graham’s disgusting comment, one group, MeidasTouch, responded the other way, by noting that “The truth is that most Americans will celebrate just like we did when we kicked Trump’s ass to the curb.” Another user wrote, “They’ll have to deal with the rest of us who will be dancing in the streets, in celebration. Don’t even think about raining on that parade.”
So maybe this flagrantly out-of-touch, privileged old man underestimates the spirit of true celebration that will break out throughout the country when Donald J. Trump is finally indicted and prosecuted for the crimes he’s apparently committed. I know that I will join the thousands in the streets when that joyous day finally arrives!
For me, personally, the highlight of the day was my seeing my urologist at 2 since my primary physician last week detected blood in my urine. Ugh! There were no symptoms associated with that phenomenon; I just assumed that my eating beets the day before caused the discoloration in my urine. When I called the doctor last week with the results, he discounted my theory. So I called my urologist to schedule an appointment. I was initially given a 10 a.m. appointment, but the office texted me last week to cancel it. I then called the office back and rescheduled my appointment for the same day – now at 2.
You can imagine my apprehension before the day of my appointment. I went out early for breakfast where I met my “ladies who breakfast” at the Austin House Diner. I sat by myself this time and talked over my booth to the three gals sitting in front of me.
I then walked over to the library to return the Philip Roth memoir, written by Benjamin Taylor. I found a new book called Fire Island by Jack Parlett that portrays the thin barrier island off the Long Island coast that has been a queer utopia for decades.
When it was time to go to Dr. “Adams,” my urologist, I left about 1:40 and walked two blocks to the office, located outside of an apartment building on 71st Road. I walked directly to the receptionist’s desk and mentioned my name and the time of my appointment. I was asked to sign my name to a daily log and then given several pages to fill out. This contained my medical history, my medications, any symptoms I have, etc. When I finished, I handed the pages in and was told to sit in the waiting room.
There were two other patients waiting with me. a younger man, about 30 years old, and an older Latino man. The small TV was tuned to Spectrum 1 News.
I sat in the not-too-comfortable, not-too-cool waiting room for 45 minutes before I was called in to deliver a urine specimen. Then I returned to the waiting room. I must have sat about an hour before I was asked to sit in an examining room.
The doctor eventually came in after 3 and told me to undress and put on a white schmatter over my private parts. He disappeared for another five minutes or so. When he came back to the examining room, he asked me for the reason why I came in to see him. I mentioned the comment made by my internist a week and a half ago and my theory of eating beets the day before the specimen was taken that might have discolored the sample. The doctor said this could possibly explain some discoloration, but a more detailed analysis would not explain the overall presence of blood in the urine. He asked if I ever saw blood and I said no. He also asked if I had other symptoms regarding bladder control. I did say I get up once or twice during the night to void.
Dr. Adams told me to then get up on the examining table, where he felt my prostrate and said it looked fine. He also palpated my abdomen and said that I had bilateral inguinal hernias; I mentioned that I have consulted a surgical practice in New Hyde Park and he recommended that I attend to repairing them. He said if I did nothing, the hernias could become “incarcerated.” Finally, he said that fundamentally there was nothing wrong with me “down there.” The result of my recent “present” was negative. He said that I didn’t even have to return anytime soon – only if I detect something amiss.
After hearing this good news, I promptly rewarded myself by having a coffee and a cherry strudel at Pasticceria Amore, on 71st Road.
Then I went home to deliver the good news to Elliot. We debated about going out for dinner, but we ended up staying inside. I went to the Natural to get a sandwich while Elliot eschewed dinner altogether.
Stay safe and be well.
