Today is Thursday, September 15, 2022. A news story that has gained traction these few months is the disgusting actions of GOP governors like Greg Abbott of Texas and, now, Ron “DeSant-ASS” of Florida who have succeeded in transporting migrants to northern liberal enclaves like New York, Washington, D.C., and just today, courtesy of the anti-American governor of Florida, Martha’s Vineyard, of all places. This time, the Florida governor claimed shameful credit for sending migrants to the last region by plane, which has infuriated Democrats to no end. This despicable action on the part of an autocratic governor of the “Dark” State, as I now refer to that recently recognized sanctuary of white supremacists and insurrectionists who participated in the January 6, 2021, coup, is covered in an online CNN article by Amy Simonson, Priscilla Alvarez, and Devan Cole entitled “DeSantis claims credit for sending 2 planes carrying migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.”
This move on DeSant-ASS’s part is the latest in a series of political moves (just for the red meat of the populace) by Republican governors to transport immigrants to sanctuary cities (read: liberal) to protest what they say are inadequate federal efforts on southern border security. The latest destination for these unsuspecting migrants, Martha’s Vineyard, is located off the coast of Massachusetts, and long known as a posh summer destination for wealthy vacationers, which has provided an unusual and unexpected place for the migrants to be sent.
Not only is this action unconscionable on an ethical basis, we now hear that DeSantis and other miserable repugnican governors could be in jeopardy for breaking laws with regard to their mass transporting of these migrants across state lines. Wouldn’t it be just grand if DeSantis and Abbott were charged with federal crimes by the Department of Justice?
An estimated 50 migrants arrived then on Martha’s Vineyard yesterday on those two planes, according to Massachusetts state Senator Julian Cyr, a Democrat who represents Martha’s Vineyard. The two planes arrived just after 3 p.,m. ET, Cyr said, and white vans took the migrants to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.
Officials believe all of the migrants originated in Venezuela, and a local fire chief said earlier in the day that the displaced people include seven families, with four children ranging from 3 to 8 years old.
“There was no advance notice to anyone in Martha’s Vineyard or Massachusetts that these migrants were arriving to my knowledge,” Cyr said.
Talking about DeSantis’s latest shameful political ploy, Florida Democratic Chair Manny Diaz said, “Even for Ron DeSantis, this is a new low.” He added, “There is nothing that DeSantis won’t do, and nobody that he won’t hurt, in order to score political points.”
The Democratic nominee for governor (whom I’m cheering on to defeat DeSant-ASS’s ass) in November, Charlie Crist, said in a statement, “This is just another political stunt that hurts our state. Tonight, the 4.5 million immigrants who call Florida home must be wondering if they’re next.”
The White House, even, denounced both DeSant-ASS’s move and a decision by Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas to intentionally send two buses of migrants to Vice President Kamala Harris’s residence in the nation’s capital. Those migrants have now been safely moved to a local church, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused the cowardly governors of using migrants as “political pawns” and said their actions amounted to a “cruel, premeditated political stunt.”
These latest cruel stunts on the part of repugnican governors who should be forever transported out of their positions in state office follow in the footsteps of yet another shameless repugnican governor, this one of Arizona, Doug Ducey, who began sending migrants to Washington, D.C., earlier this year. Also, Abbott has aroused the ire of New York’s mayor to the response of his busing migrants to this city ever since May. The Texas governor has expanded his efforts to even include Chicago.
The only positive note from this sad story involving the cruelty of repugnican governors is the great response from the community in Massachusetts that has mobilized quickly around providing food and beds for the migrant families who touched down on their New England soil.
Massachusetts state Rep. Dylan Fernandes, a Democrat who represents the island, said in a series of tweets, “Our island jumped into action putting together 50 beds, giving everyone a good meal, providing a play area for the children, making sure people have the healthcare and support they need.” He added, “We are a community that comes together to support immigrants.”
Officials on Martha’s Vineyard say they are working with a coalition on the island to provide “shelter, food, and care to individuals,” who arrived on the island Wednesday, according to a statement from the county Emergency Management Association.
Some local restaurants are uninhibitedly offering free food to the migrants.
As for where the migrants bedded down for the night, it was reported that they slept at Andrew’s Church last night, which often assists in housing those in need.
The migrants were actually lied to by the villainous governor of Florida who promised that they would be provided with jobs and housing at Martha’s Vineyard, which is a total falsehood. A Martha’s Vineyard Community Service media representative said that “They had community service packets provided to them before they got off the plane,” adding that he wasn’t sure what third party provided the packets of information to the migrants. Maybe it was residents of the Villages who provided the migrants with these fake packets. Who knows?
One thing is clear: those engaging in these cruel stunts with the lives of vulnerable human beings MUST suffer some sort of political retribution for their callousness and brutality. If they are reelected, then it’s a sad day in America, I declare.
The governor of the Dark State was provided a lesson in real Christian charity with the wonderful response from the Martha’s Vineyard community. How can this guy sleep at night? I wonder. Damn him!
Today was not a good day, as Elliot and I received news that our beloved cat Jocelyn might be on her slow descent to eternity. She had a vet appointment at 11 a.m. and we really had no inkling that she was in such distress, even though she has slowed down considerably in the last few months. We always thought it was the side effect of her taking so much medication: for her heart and, most recently, for arthritis, which seems to have improved lately. When Elliot picked me up at Panepinto Bakery, on Eliot Avenue, in Middle Village, he gave me the disheartening news.
The vet, Dr. “Crawley,” said that she noted crackling in her lungs and also observed an enlarged heart chamber on her other side, which is not a good sign. Jocelyn has had cardiomyopathy for a while now. She had double mastectomies about three years ago, and she survived that. Now we’re not so sure if this can be overcome. She has been called “feisty,” but she needs too much strength to beat this, so we don’t really think she can this time. Some signs of congestive heart failure are breathlessness and lethargy, and she certainly suffers from the latter condition. She’s sleeping much more now. It’s amazing that cats are prescribed the same medications that a human would be prescribed: medications such as diuretics and beta-blockers which she does take. Unfortunately, she cannot tell us if she’s in pain, but when it is so apparent that she is, we will have to bring her back to the Juniper Animal Hospital. Dr. Crawley went so far as to not recommend the special food that she was taking. She said that we could give her anything that she would like. To me, that signals the end. Elliot is putting a brave face on, even though I know it’s upsetting him terribly. Jocelyn had just turned 12 on August 28. The worst thing having a pet, as anyone knows, is facing the inevitable end. You have to enjoy every minute you have with them. That’s all you can do.
I will fill you in on her progress, as it were.
Stay safe and be well.
