Today is Friday, September 16, 2022. As an update to the story of Florida’s governor Ron DeSant-ASS’s despicable act of political cruelty with his transporting 50 undocumented immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday, today there is an online AlterNet article by David Badash gloriously announcing that the Massachusetts U.S. attorney and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are looking into the actions of the Trump mini-me governor. The article is entitled “Mass. US attorney and DOJ are ‘looking into’ Ron DeSantis flying 50 immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard.”

The article begins with questioning posed by the writer that the actions of the autocratic governor can be investigated since he enticed 50 people under false pretenses to board airplanes with the promise of jobs and a better life all on the taxpayers’ dime. The U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Rachel Rollins, and DOJ officials are discussing that very question and whether to pursue it as a crime.

In the meantime, the far right is falsely insisting that residents of the region where the migrants were flown to are infuriated that the immigrants are reading in their tiny town – Edgartown, where they walked several miles from the airport to, which has a population of just 5,168 people year-round. This is so far from the truth that it’s ludicrous: people from across the Vineyard came out to volunteer their services to the confused immigrants. There were so many people who turned out, that, according to one resident, they had to turn away people who came out to help.

Senator Elizabeth Warren stated in a statement, “Exploiting vulnerable people for political stunts is repulsive and cruel.” She continued, “Islanders and people across Massachusetts have joined together to assist migrants that have arrived. . . . This is something we can do – work together, remember our values, put aside the politics and support the people who need our help.”

Other odious OP governors in tight reelection races have now transported thousands of undocumented immigrants into blue states, including New York and Massachusetts. I mentioned that Texas Governor Greg Abbott bused over 100 immigrants to Vice President Kamala Harris’s home, the United States Naval Observatory.

Today Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland asking him to open a possible “RICO” and “kidnapping” investigation into GOP governors transporting thousands of migrants. Wouldn’t it be grand if both of these inhumane and autocratic governors could be charged with crimes, even? Look, no one is above the law, right?

Democratic President Joe Biden slammed into both Texas and Florida governors for dropping desperate migrants in Martha’s Vineyard and outside Vice President Kamala Harris’s residence, respectively.

Biden took to the stage Thursday night at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., to address the 45th Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Gala.

Most of the speech was devoted to enumerating parts of his administration’s agenda and legislative accomplishments. But in one section, Biden ripped into the abominable twosome for what he called “playing politics with human beings.” He castigated repugnicans for not working with Democrats toward finding solutions to the immigration crisis. He said, “What they’re doing is simply wrong. It’s un-American. It’s reckless.”

Biden said it was long overdue for repugnicans “to come to the table to provide a pathway for citizenship for DREAMers, those in temporary status, farmworkers, and essential workers.”

The President concluded his speech by stating how crucial it is for Democrats to win this off-year election. Boy, did he get that right.

Let’s hope that these political stunts by both craven men will gloriously backfire for both of them, leading to their political extermination!

In the meantime, the Justice Department is not sitting on its laurels over the labyrinthian Mar-a-Lago fiasco, as that deplorable judge, Aileen Cannon, handed her Golden Idol an unexpected victory who has now barred the Department from reviewing a batch of classified documents seized during an FBI search of former president Dumpf’s Florida home on August 8. Is this lady for real, folks? This crazy judge is impeding the country’s efforts to protect its national security. That is why the Justice Department is now seeking relief from the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Atlanta today, stating that the judge’s decision was interfering in the government’s efforts to protect the nation’s security and impeding its investigation into the presence of top-secret information at Mar-a-Lago. The Department said the hold needed to be lifted immediately, so work could resume on its investigation.

This breaking story is covered online for the Associated Press by Eric Tucker in the article entitled “US asks appeals court to lift judge’s Mar-a-Lago probe hold.”

Department lawyers wrote in their brief to the appeals court, “The government and the public would suffer irreparable harm absent a stay.” The judge’s appointment of a “special master” to review the documents, and the resulting legal tussle, appear certain to further slow the department’s criminal investigation. This is totally unacceptable.

This special master has been appointed by Cannon, and he is former chief judge of the federal court based in Brooklyn, Raymond Dearie, to serve as the arbiter. Cannon stupidly refused to lift an order that prevented the department from using for its investigation about 100 seized documents marked as classified, citing ongoing disputes about the nature of the documents that she said merited a neutral review. In her absurd statement about her rationale for doing what she is doing, she illustrated her own mistrust of such federal agencies like the FBI and the Justice Department, thus playing into the hands of the biggest distruster of all, Donald J. Trump.

In her brief, she wrote, “The Court does not find it appropriate to accept the Government’s conclusions on these important and disputed issues without further review by a neutral third party in an expedited and orderly fashion.” Many legal experts called her ruling incredibly flawed.

The FBI indicated it took about 11,000 documents, including roughly 100 with classification markings found in a storage room and an office, while serving a court-authorized search warrant at the home.

Thus the intrusion of this far-right judge has thrown the whole investigation into chaos. Cannon directed the special master to complete his review by November 30, which is after the midterms. So nothing is going to be resolved before the midterms now – with respect to the former Whiner-in-Chief. Cannon also directed the arbiter to prioritize the review of classified documents and instructed the Justice Department to permit the Dumpf legal team to inspect classified records with “controlled access conditions.”

The agency disagreed, of course, with the judge that the special master should be empowered to inspect the classified records. It said the records that were seized do not contain communication between Dumpf and his lawyers that could be covered by attorney-client privilege, and said the former president could not credibly invoke executive privilege to shield documents that do not belong to him from the investigation. Doesn’t this myopic judge know that Dumpf cannot claim executive privilege when he is no longer president? Just like those supporters of the Jim Jones of the 21st century who still call him “President” when he hasn’t been since 2021. (Actually, I’ve always maintained he was never “president” in the first place.)

Cannon doesn’t even recognize that she is impeding the investigation since she has disagreed with the department’s assessment, noting in her order that officials could proceed with other aspects of their probe, such as interviewing witnesses. Like this is on par with investigating where those classified documents went after Dumpf got his tiny hands on them!

So it sadly looks like the country has to wait with bated breath to see what the appeals court will decide on this ongoing investigation. Too, too bad!

Just heard California Governor Gavin Newsom call what DeSant-ASS did a “disgrace” on CNN right now. I hope most American will agree with Newsom’s description of the “Dark” State governor’s actions.

Today we dealt with sort of a new reality with our cat Jocelyn who seemed to enter a new phase of existence. Elliot and I did go out to run errands in the neighborhood; I had breakfast at my usual location, the Austin Street Diner, and met my regular circle of women. I disclosed the situation with Jocelyn to them, and they commiserated.

With respect to our cat’s condition, Jocelyn does sleep more, as mentioned yesterday, but she does eat and continues to groom herself, which are good signs. When this stops, that will definitely be cause for alarm. But, unfortunately, we will be prepared for the worst.
