Coronavirus Diary

Today is Monday, October 31, Halloween 2022. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday dressing up as their favorite scary character. To me, what’s scarier is that Herschel Walker is outpacing Raphael Warnock in the Senate race – that’s terrifying, in my opinion, more so than someone dressed up in a Ghostface costume from the Scream franchise. (This lead is countermanded by a new poll written about below. Of course, I would want to believe the results of the poll mentioned below over the earlier survey.) But on Sunday, a fiery sermon was delivered by a passionate preacher by the name of Jamal Bryant to his faithful at Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church in which he gave his thoughts on the candidacy of Herschel Walker for Senate, and, folks, it was certainly not much of a ringing endorsement. His condemnatory sermon against the unfitness of Walker for office is quite denunciatory and should be broadcast to all voters of color in Georgia right before the election next Tuesday.

The pastor’s speech is covered in today’s online edition of the Daily Beast in an article written by Brooke Leigh Howard entitled “Atlanta Preacher Gives Herschel Walker the Business in Fiery Sunday Sermon.” The impassioned preacher laced into the absurdity of a “Senator” Walker thusly, “Ladies and gentlemen, when the Republican Party of Georgia moved Herschel Walker from Texas to Georgia so that he can run for Senate, it’s because change was taken too fast in the post-Antebellum South,” he rumbled. He continued unflinchingly, saying,”They thought we was so slow, that we was so stupid, that we would elect the lowest caricature of a stereotypical, broken Black man , . . Since Herschel Walker was 16 years old, white men been telling him what to do, telling him what school to go to, where to live . . . where to pay for abortions, where to buy a gun, and you think they not gon’ tell him how to vote? Then he chanted several times, “In 2022, we don’t need a Walker, we need a runner. We need somebody to run and tell the truth about Jan. 6. . . . Georgia, I need you to know, the slave Negro y’all are used to don’t live here no more. We can think for ourselves, function for ourselves, and vote for ourselves!” The audience murmured its approval loudly and clearly. Here is a message that all Georgians need to hear before casting their votes for their preferred candidate to occupy a seat in the upper house. I say, “Amen!”

If polls can be believed, a new poll out today from The New York Times and Sienna College presents the good news that Democrats are leading their repugnican opponents in several key races: Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona, while the race to protect incumbent Catherine Cortez Mastro is tied in Nevada.

I think this is great news for the President’s party, which was recently sweating bullets over a recent downward trend for several key races, largely blamed on persistent high consumer prices. If Democrats can hold their seats in Arizona, Georgia, and potentially Arizona, it will likely slam the door shut on a Republican majority in the upper chamber for the last two years of Biden’s first term.

There is also the potential for a key pickup for Democrats in the upper chamber: Pennsylvania, where John Fetterman is facing a barrage of GOP attacks from organizations aligned with Senate GOP leadership as well as the conservative media complex, which has focused its gaze on the race. Despite this unrelenting assault, the lieutenant governor has a five-point lead in the poll over Dr. Mehmet Oz, his celebrity TV opponent. The poll’s results only include interviews from one day after a widely watched debate between the two candidates, in which Fetterman displayed obvious effects from the stroke he suffered in May.

The poll does not contain results from two other very important races, Ohio and North Carolina, which both represent opportunities for Democrats and pitfalls for the GOP. Both are seats held by retiring repugnican senators, meaning that the GOP’s incumbency advantage is gone and, in the case of Ohio, Republicans are running a total political newcomer in the race. Both are presumed close as well, meaning that a polling error of even a few points in favor of Democrats could mean a resounding victory for President Biden on election night. We can only hope this might be the case. Democracy is on the line.

The clearest example of how divided this country is at the moment is provided by the devil spawn of the former president who tweeted out a despicable Halloween post in which he mocked the recent brutal attack on the husband of the Speaker of the House, Paul Pelosi, who still continues to recover after surgery for a skull fracture.

The worthless son of the former fake president thought he could draw laughs from his audience of likeminded dimwits, where he posted a meme with a photo of underwear and hammer with the caption: “Got my Paul Pelosi Halloween costume ready.” This sort of meme should have been universally denounced, but what do you think his supporters did? They rousingly approved of it, that’s what they did. Again, the repugnican party, such as it is, is another word for brutality and hatred, and nothing else. This is encapsulated in the loathsome person of Don, Jr. who takes after his putrid father pretty well. Only one person called the post for what it is: “despicable.”

Then Don, Jr. pivoted to an obsession of this comically bankrupt party, Hunter Biden, by stupidly suggesting, “If you switch out the hammer for a red feather boa, you could be Hunter Biden in an instant.” I wonder where are the denunciations from such GOP leaders as Kevin “Trump Ass Licker” McCarthy and “Bitch” McConnell? Do you hear any notes of disapproval from these two cowards? Not even a whimper.

A more ridiculous assertion made by the depraved son of the former president wondered why Democrats did not take “all violence seriously as they’re taking the Paul Pelosi situation.” As if someone wielding a hammer with murder on his mind is not serious at all in the mind of this dickhead. It’s also a wonderful example of “projection” coming from this asshole when the violence he talks about has been incited by repugnicans all along, not by Democrats, as long as I can figure it. Fuck, it was MAGA Republicans who incited the January 6th riot against the Capitol. How dare this puny man speak so disrespectfully about a true incident of violence in an 82-year-old man’s home! Fuck him! I didn’t want to even pay him this much consideration, given how much I despise him, along with his entire clan. He deserves no attention, but unfortunately, given his status, the media provides it to him. Which is very sad, very sad!

Even new Twitter owner Elon Musk didn’t help matters in this situation since he tweeted (and then deleted) a police-debunked right-wing conspiracy theory that Pelosi and his attacker were lovers who met at a bar. How outrageous! Even obscenely rich men like Musk can be assholes, it can be observed.

There are only eight days left until the midterms. Ten days left until my surgical procedure. Oh boy!

Stay safe and be well.
