Today is Wednesday, November 9, 2022, one day after the midterm elections of 2022. I was very nervous about the outcome yesterday, but as observed after results came trickling in, I had more reason to be optimistic, given the actual results. A sweeping “red wave” was predicted in poll after poll, but that did not happen – thankfully! Contests were very close, almost nail-bitingly so in many states. I had much reason to celebrate and enough reasons to mourn deeply over the results: In Florida, the asinine, fascistic governor handily won the governorship and putrid Marco Rubio defeated Val Demings for his Senate seat. I expected “DeSant-ASS” handily winning the race against Charlie Crist, but I had hoped for a turnaround in Demings’ case, but was sorely disappointed when I learned that she had lost. Also, I was very disappointed in Beto O’Rourke’s defeat in Texas; his opponent, incumbent governor Greg Abbott, persevered. One reason to celebrate is the election of the first openly lesbian candidate in Massachusetts, Maura Healey, who won against her Republican challenger. Also, John Fetterman defeated his crudités opponent, Dr. Mehet Oz. Also another reason to cheer. As for being disappointed, the contest in Ohio did not go as I had wished: the far-right pugilist J.D. Vance, who was a big Dumpf ass licker, won his Senate seat against far moderate candidate Tim Ryan, who really should have won. In Iowa, Chuck Grassley inexplicably won his seat once more; the man is actually 89 years old and he has served since the Founding of the Republic. Very hard to understand why his challenger, Michael Franken, could not unseat him finally. The Georgia Senate race is now headed for a runoff in December since both candidates could not get 50 percent of the vote. Very disappointing. Another disappointment was Ron Johnson’s win in Wisconsin over his Democratic challenger, Mandela Barnes. Thus the Senate is still up for grabs, while the House appears within grasp of the repugnicans. But again, this was no bloodbath for Democrats which is a wonderful thing.
I would like to write some more about the crucial midterms yesterday, but tomorrow is my hernia procedure. I received word that I need to report to the hospital at 6 a.m. So I’m actually going to go to bed early tonight to try to get some sleep. No more going to bed at 3 a.m. Well, at least for tonight.
Thus I will say good night and I hope to file my blog tomorrow – maybe. You’ll understand why I might be AWOL tomorrow if I don’t. This could take several days, depending on how I feel after my surgery.
Stay safe and be well.
