Coronavirus Diary

Today is Sunday, December 4, 2022. On Saturday, the former ex-president declared war on the country’s Constitution as he called for its termination to overturn the 2020 election and reinstate him to power yesterday in a continuation of his election denialism and pushing of fringe conspiracy theories. Dumpf wrote about overturning the Constitution in a post on the social network “Truth” Social and accused “Big Tech” of working closely with Democrats.

Without missing a beat, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said yesterday that Dumpf’s remarks are “anathema to the soul of our nation and should be universally condemned.” In a statement, Bates said, “You cannot only love America when you win.” He added, “The American Constitution is a sacrosanct document that for over 200 years has guaranteed that freedom and the rule of law prevail in our great country. The Constitution brings the American people together – regardless of party – and elected leaders swear to uphold it. It’s the ultimate monument to all of the Americans who have given their lives to defeat self-serving despots that abused their power and trampled on fundamental rights.”

Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, a vocal critic of the disgraced ex-president, vehemently denounced the former dictator-in-waiting’s Truth Social statement today. She fumed, “No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution.”

With comments like this, how could anyone think that Dumpf has not disqualified himself as a possible presidential contender as he expresses his hatred of this country’s fundamental foundational document. How could he ever be sworn in to uphold the Constitution with such horrific views as these? He is toast, everyone. He is just now exposing his naked desperation after all of his legal strategies designed to hold off the inevitable – his own indictment – have failed repeatedly in court after court.

Earlier this week, the twice-impeached president expressed support for the rioters behind the deadly January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, saying in a video played during a fundraiser that “People have been treated unconstitutionally in my opinion and very, very unfairly, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it.” In a September interview, Dumpf said that he was “financially supporting” some January 6 defendants (this has to be another fiction since this tightwad would never fund anyone other than himself), and promised he would issue pardons and a government apology to those being prosecuted if he were reelected. To me, this is the 1,0001 reason not to reelect this monster.

Dumpf’s reckless and dangerous remarks about the Constitution clearly show he is still a poisonous figure in American politics and must be scrubbed from the landscape forever!

What should disturb all Americans – since the comments made by this former “president” show he is clearly disturbed himself – is how fucking silent the entire Republican Party is once more over this new threat from this charlatan in the orange hair. This party should never, ever win any more elections from now on as long as they embrace this divisive figure of American politics.

Today Elliot and I intended to drive to Sanford’s in Astoria to have a quiet brunch, but when we began walking through the basement to the side entrance, we met our neighbor “Denise” who was our guest this Thanksgiving. Elliot mentioned where we were going and she seemed very interested in joining us, so we said we could take her after she dropped off her grocery packages. We didn’t have to wait very long; she came down in about five minutes.

Now we had a passenger in the back seat as Elliot drove to Astoria and to Sanford’s. Denise expressed keen interest in how Elliot was driving to the restaurant since she never saw this part of Astoria before. We found parking under the El and parked close to the restaurant.

There was no problem in getting a table, even though the restaurant appeared quite busy. We were escorted to a table near the window by the hostess. I sat next to Denise, and Elliot had the entire booth to himself.

Both Denise and Elliot ordered the Cobb salad while I preferred – as usual – the cinnamon and pecan French toast. I had my first cup of coffee there also.

Later, we took our good friend “Mark” out to dinner at Il Poeta, on Metropolitan Avenue, as our way of welcoming him to his new digs in his apartment complex. This is a family-owned northern Italian restaurant serving traditional fare in a homey, white-tablecloth setting. I called in the afternoon to make a 5:30 reservation. So we picked Mark up around 5:15 and drove to the restaurant.

No need to mention what we consumed at the restaurant. The main thing is that we were all very satisfied with our appetizers and main courses. We even enjoyed the desserts we had – ice cream for Mark and Elliot and panna cotta for me. This particular Italian dessert just hit the spot after a full meal.

From what I wrote here, it definitely seems as if we went on an eating spree today. And it certainly does seem that way!

I could have lied about what I did today, but I didn’t want to do a “Donald Trump” on you!

In two days, we’ll learn if Georgia voters lost their minds and selected the worst candidate for the Senate to represent them in Congress.

Have a good week.

Stay safe and be well.
