Coronavirus Diary

Today is Wednesday, December 7, 2022, a day after Raphael Warnock’s nail-biting win over Herschel Walker for the Senate seat in Tuesday’s runoff election. It is also the 81st anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, ushering the country’s entry into the Second World War. That’s difficult to believe, but it’s true. It’s also the day that ex-president Dumpf’s political obituary was written in a brutal Fox News editorial which declares Donald Dumpf’s presidential ambitions to be officially dead! We certainly wish this were true, so we can be rid of this cancer on the American soul. This obituary appears in an online Raw Story article by Brad Reed entitled “‘Trump’s political obituary’: Brutal Fox News editorial buries former president after Walker defeat.” Do you think the former president is fuming right now after this editorial was published?

The opinion piece was titled “Herschel Walker just wrote Donald Trump’s political obituary” by columnist Liz Peek who declared that the defeat of Dumpf’s hand-picked Georgia Senate candidate should signal to the party that it’s time to move on. Will these obtuse and stupid repugnicans heed this blunt columnist’s advice?

She writes unmercifully, “Having suffered the rare humiliation of failing to win a second term in the Oval Office, and having cost his party a majority in the Senate – three times – it is time for Donald Trump to step away from politics.” Her message to the orange-haired one couldn’t be more simple: retire forever to Mar-a-Lago and expire on the golf links. She adds insult to injury, saying, “It is the right thing to do for his party, for the country, and for himself.” But we all know this malignant narcissist will never acknowledge his myriad failings here and will not step away from politics. It’s incumbent upon the detritus of his party to abandon him before they lose election after election in the near term.

In her brutal opinion piece, Peek actually argues that Dumpf is a bigger asset for Democrats, whose donors churned out significant sums of money to beat Dumpf-endorsed candidates this election cycle and who remain incredibly motivated to see him remain out of the Oval Office.

The courageous editorial writer believes that all of this shows that Dumpf is a fading power who is ripe to be picked off by a much younger challenger.

Peek writes that other rivals are out there to take on the bloated, old man – people like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis or Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin who are not only more popular than Dumpf, but will also be better funded. As you probably know, I hate both of these potential rivals to the old man, but they are certainly better choices than Dumpf just by a smidgen. Peek recognizes that Dumpf has already attacked both these Republicans because he recognizes how much of a threat they really are to his inexplicable presidential ambitions, further alienating those who want to win future elections. She concludes her assessment of the former president, stating, “It’s time for former President Trump to realize that staying in the 2024 contest will only further erode his legacy [I ask, “What legacy?”]. He must move aside and let Republicans win the next round.” Will the former demagogue take Peek’s advice here and gracefully bow out of politics forever? You can bet your ass he won’t! He is incapable of thoughtful self-reflection here and will never admit he is a three time loser.

The country should applaud the actions of those family members who refused to shake the hands of “Bitch” McConnell and that pusillanimous Kevin McCarthy in a lineup in which members shook the hand of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democratic lawmakers but walked away from the two hypocrites who should have not even be at the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony. I’m listening to Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Brian Sicknick, the Capitol Police Officer who lost his life in the attack on the U.S. Capitol that was fomented by an ex-president, on a short CNN video clip on my smartphone right now. This snub came yesterday and was broadcast on the news last night. Craig Sicknick, the brother of Brian Sicknick, is also featured in the clip and he mentions that he has no respect for people like McConnell and McCarthy who have no integrity. I certainly agree with his response to those two feckless lawmakers. Do you think these snubbed politicians will realize why they were rebuffed by the families of those receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest honor one can receive for service in Congress? I seriously doubt that they have the same kind of self-reflection that is missing in the Orange Blob. As Mrs. Sicknick said on the CNN video, “How can these men go back to their families and their children and grandchildren with what they have done regarding the events of January 6, 2021?” I wonder how these men sleep at night, even.

Since this is my last blog before the 21st of December, possibly, I’m going to end early so I can go to bed a little earlier tonight. We don’t have an early flight, but we are leaving at 11:30 to get to JFK before we depart at 2:30. Elliot has always preferred to sit at an airport and be able to nap rather than arrive within minutes of boarding a plane. I’m somewhere in the middle: I’m not a fan of sitting at an airport and spending oodles of money on items that are jacked up just because they’re being sold at an airport. So we intend to bring sandwiches tomorrow to eat on the plane and I also bought some Danish at Wall’s Bake Shop, in Hewlett, to nibble while waiting for our flight.

So have a good 12 days while I’m gone.

Stay safe and be well.

Here is today’s hilarious cover headline on the conviction of Dumpf’s two companies on all 17 counts of tax and financial crimes. I thought you might enjoy it.
