Coronavirus Diary

Today is Thursday, April 27, 2023. Today the former cowardly vice president who was evading telling the truth for years over what really happened on that infamous day on January 6, 2021, finally was forced to testify for several hours in the January 6 investigation led by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith – after months of Pence stonewalling and raising ridiculous constitutional objections, and the Golden Idol being denied a last-minute legal motion to block the testimony from taking place. This extraordinary legal maneuver secured by Smith in the long-range investigation into one of the worst days for this country sends a signal that Smith is nearing a crossroads in his probe. This development is reported in an online article for Raw Story by Matthew Chapman entitled “Pence is Jack Smith’s ‘key legal battle’ – and his testimony was a massive victory: reporter.”

In the meantime, Smith has already secured testimony from a number of other Dumpf officials, as noted by guest Sara Murray speaking to CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer on his program The Situation Room. She mentioned that when you’re talking about the vice president coming in to testify, “that is a different level of a court fight.”

Murray noted that this day marks itself as a victory for the special counsel who was seeking this testimony for a long while, as Pence himself put up roadblocks to providing it. But not today! I can’t understand why someone with no spine like this Indiana homophobe would not willingly testify against the man who wanted him lynched by an angry mob. Why would he not testify? one can ask.

Whatever one can say about Pence testifying against his boss, this appearance before a federal grand jury makes a momentous juncture in the criminal investigation and the first time in history a vice president has been compelled to testify about the president he served beside. For those who are interested, Pence testified for more than five hours.

Today also marks the third day of testimony being heard by a New York jury in the civil battery and defamation lawsuit against Pence’s boss, with the writer accusing Dumpf of raping her in Bergdorf Goodman engaging in a contentious cross- examination by Dumpf’s defense attorney, Joe Tacopina. This scuffle consisted primarily of Tacopina asking Carroll why she didn’t scream during the approximately 3-minute alleged attack in the store’s dressing room, or even afterward.

This development in the ongoing case is reported on in an online article for CNN by Aaron Cooper entitled “E. Jean Carroll responds to Trump attorney: ‘I’m telling you, he raped me whether I screamed or not.'”

Here Carroll defended her nonverbal response, saying, “I’m not a screamer. I was too much in panic to scream. You can’t beat up on me for not screaming,” she railed at Tacopina. She continued, “Women who don’t come forward, one of the reasons they don’t come forward is they are asked why they didn’t scream. Some women scream, some women don’t. It keeps women silent.”

Then Carroll defiantly retorted, “I’m telling you, he raped me whether I screamed or not. I don’t need an excuse for not screaming.” Yay for this very brave woman pushing back at this offensive defense on the part of Dumpf’s pit bull of a lawyer.

On the stand, Carroll talked about her confusion when the real estate mogul pushed his way into the journalist’s private areas in the dressing room. She reported, “I was very confused, the first push. I thought ‘he couldn’t have meant that.’ I thought he had made a mistake. I thought it was very strange.”

The plaintiff surged on, “I was trying to figure out what the hell was going . . . we had just been laughing 12, 15 seconds before and here I am being pushed up against the wall. It just didn’t make any sense. Then he put his mouth against mine and then I understood.”

After the assault ended, Carroll testified that she didn’t say anything to Dumpf and was fearful he would follow her and grab her. She went down the six floors of escalators and left, and did not see a customer.

Afterward, Carroll testified about how bad she felt after being besmirched by Dumpf in his media postings ever since the details of the lawsuit came out. She bemoaned the “wave of slime, seedy comments, very denigrating. Almost an endless stream of people repeating what Donald Trump said.” The main thing she referred to is how Dumpf denigrated her physical appearance, saying she was “too ugly” for him to want to ever want to violate her. Carroll stated, “It’s very hard to get up in the morning receiving these messages that you are way too ugly to go on living, practically.”

Here Carroll’s defense attorney Mike Ferrara showed the jury some tweets calling his client ugly, a troll, and a liar. As recently as today, Carroll testified about comments she saw on Twitter this morning calling her “Liar, slut, ugly, old,” but in defiance, she remarked, “I couldn’t be more proud to be here.”

If you ask me, the fact that this blowhard is absent from appearing at his own defamation lawsuit will not be lost on the jury when it’s time to come to a decision regarding the veracity of Carroll’s accusations against the former president. A former prosecutor correctly calls him out for ditching the trial, saying he’s a coward.

That former prosecutor is Joyce Vance who said to MSNBC today, “You don’t have to be a lawyer to understand that Trump would rather give his quote-unquote testimony in a forum like Truth Social, where he doesn’t have to say it is true under oath, than he would in a courtroom. He doesn’t have the courage to sit there and face his accuser. And this, frankly, is something that won’t be lost on the jury.”

So true, so true, Ms. Vance. The jury will not forget that Dumpf would rather sit behind his failing social media platform than sit in a courtroom to meet his accuser in person. He might pee in his pants if he did ever show up! The world cannot see this happening in a courtroom, as he is perceived by gullible others as a strongman.

Anyway, it’s getting late here. I was on the phone for over an hour with my good friend “Harold,” whose son and daughter-in-law are expecting a baby very soon. Still, there is no news yet. It should happen very soon.

Stay safe and be well.
