Coronavirus Diary

Today is Monday, May 22, 2023. I just heard this breaking news on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC: E. Jean Carroll has asked a judge to amend her initial defamation case against the former president to seek additional punitive damages after he repeated his lurid statements about the writer at a superfluous CNN town hall a day after he lost the case. As you recall, he was judged a sexual abuser of Carroll when she accused him of abusing her in a dressing room in Bergdorf Goodman. This update appears in an online CNN article by Kara Scannell entitled “E. Jean Carroll asks judge to amend lawsuit to seek further damages for what Trump said at CNN town hall.” Maybe, just maybe, this loose cannon will finally be held accountable for continuing to make defamatory comments against someone he just lost a civil suit to the day before.

Carroll’s attorneys said Dumpf’s defamatory statements repeated during the town hall earlier this month go directly to the issue of punitive damages, which are intended to punish the person found liable.

In the suit, Carroll alleged that the ex-president raped her in the upscale department store in the mid-199os and then defamed her when he denied her claim, said she wasn’t her type, and suggested she made up the story to boost sales of her book. As you know, Dumpf denied all claims brought against him by the 79-year-old plaintiff and appealed the jury’s verdict.

While the jury found that Dumpf sexually abused Carroll, sufficient to hold him liable for battery, the jury did not find that she proved he raped her.

As expected, the former dictator-in-chief quickly jumped on this aspect of the jury’s verdict at that CNN town hall in New Hampshire the day after the jury came to its decision, saying, “They said, ‘He didn’t rape her.’ And I didn’t do anything else either.” The blabbermouth couldn’t keep quiet, as he continued to foam at the mouth, “I have no idea who this woman is – this is a fake story, made up story.” He called Carroll a “whack job” and went on a tangent about her ex-husband and even her pet cat. Very bizarre! I missed that since I refused to watch this danger to democracy on CNN that night. Actually, we were on our cross-country extravaganza during the aforementioned town hall.

More bad news for the principal insurrectionist: federal prosecutors with the special counsel’s office issued a subpoena to the Trump Organization for information regarding business deals in foreign countries, according to two sources familiar with the investigation. Oh boy, if I were Dumpf, I’d be very afraid of potential indictments in the wake of this new announcement.

This new blockbuster development is reported in an online CNN article by Caitlan Collins, Paula Reid, and Kara Scannell entitled “Prosecutors issue subpoena to Trump Org. for information regarding business deals in foreign countries.”

One of the sources suggested investigators appear to be focused on former president Dumpf’s business dealings in countries that could have possibly been interested in the types of classified materials recovered from Dumpf after he left office.

Some of those countries in which information has been subpoenaed include China, France, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. The New York Times reported that the subpoena sought records for deals reached since 2017, when Dumpf sadly became president. Thus we might finally have some evidence that the traitorous ex-president shared this classified information with our foreign enemies. This could be quite explosive if this can be proved!

Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating Dumpf’s handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago after his presidency and possible obstruction. So far, no indictments have yet been issued. But we can only hope!

It’s news like this that would send someone like Donald J. Dumpf into the recesses of his palatial estate at Mar-a-Lago. I would also think he might not have a good’s night sleep after hearing this disturbing news. Maybe he can rant to Melania over how victimized he is. But they probably don’t eve

Sheesh, there’s even more bad news being disclosed on Lawrence I’Donnell’s show now as I’m typing this blog. The bad news is racing past us in a whirlwind right now. This additional incriminating news comes out of The Guardian in which there’s more information regarding the classified documents probe initiated by special counsel Jack Smith. Here Dumpf was warned about keeping classified documents, and this time, there are records of this warning made to the clueless ex-president from a lawyer’s notes in the case. Legal experts now say this new Mar-a-Lago evidence could “blow up” in Trump’s face at trial.

What a night for bad news for a former commander-in-grief! How much worse can it get? Maybe Dumpf could be slapped with additional indictments as he is judged to pay even more in damages to E. Jean Carroll. Ooh, it must hurt!

Stay safe and be well.
