Today is Tuesday, May 30, 2023. A preeminently unfit candidate for the office of president, Ron De”Mented,” as I call him (plus a few choice profane ones) has been slammed for ignoring yet another mass shooting, this time, occurring right here in his own backyard, on Memorial Day. This latest example of American carnage occurred 20 miles north of Miami which left nine people, including children as young as one, wounded, but the governor of the state hasn’t said a word about it, leading many on social media to blast the Florida Republican who for months has been laser-focused on his nascent presidential campaign.
This sorry state of affairs in yet another region of “bloodbath America,” as author Paul Auster called one of his latest nonfiction books on the tragedy of American gun violence, appeared in an online article for AlterNet by David Badash entitled “‘Wasn’t by drag queens’: DeSantis slammed for ignoring Florida mass shooting that included children.”
CBS News reports that nine people were wounded Monday evening when gunfire erupted along a beachside promenade in Hollywood, Florida, sending people frantically running for cover along the crowded beach on Memorial Day. As reported, “The shooting happened on the Hollywood Oceanfront Boardwalk near a convenience store, a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream store, and a Subway sandwich shop.” Police are conducting a continuing search for two people they believe were involved in the shooting.
Several children were among those injured. Police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi said four children between the agers of 1 and 17 were hit, along with five adults between 25 and 65, CBS News adds.
The “antiwoke” governor was hosting a major event in Iowa on Tuesday and has not been heard from about the terrible shooting in his own state, failing to post anything on his Twitter accounts, or posting a statement on his government website, nor even speaking to reporters about the mass shooting. What the governor’s press secretary inexplicably did do, though, was take time to attack another governor, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who noted on social media that DeMented recently signed a permit-less carry bill into law, which would result in even more guns on the streets of the Sunscreen State.
Meanwhile, many on social media are blasting DeMented for ignoring the mass shooting to concentrate on his presidential ambitions.
One savvy social media user tweeted, “9 people were shot in Hollywood, Florida, and it sure as hell wasn’t by Drag Queens.” Another user noted, “Ron DeSantis had laws changed so he could stay Governor AND run for POTUS.” Another social media user said, “MEANWHILE he ignores what is happening in Florida. He hasn’t said ONE WORD about this mass shooting (a 1-year-old shot) in HIS STATE this weekend. Ron, I think you should leave.” This user certainly got it right: the Fred Flintstone of politics here just showed his true colors by revealing his inhumanity toward the situation in his own state. He does need to leave, as the last user wrote. I doubt that the clueless governor will listen to his detractors on social media here and decide to repair his image over this latest mass shooting in his state.
What also will get this ignorant presidential candidate into trouble with the electorate is his “David versus Goliath” war against the Disney Corporation, where he just announced irrationally, to say the least, how the Magic Kingdom sexualizes children. Is this guy for real? Who the fuck believes this piece of garbage about a much-loved company sexualizing children for Heaven’s sake. DeMented is just as loony here with his baseless claims against Disney as those asshole QAnon adherents who believe that all Democrats are pedophiles. DeMented’s latest obsession with the Mouse was mocked by Morning Joe host Chuck Scarborough this morning when he and others had a good laugh over DeMented’s feud with the large entertainment juggernaut, especially now that he’s in a state like Iowa.
The actual comments made by the Neanderthal, in my opinion, presidential candidate came on Fox and Friends when he argued that Iowans should vote for him over twice-impeached-once-indicted former president Trump, because Trump has “taken the side of Disney” and “I think a multi-billion-dollar company that sexualizes children is not consistent with the values of Florida, or the values of a place like Iowa.” The jaw just drops after hearing DeMented’s comments here.
After playing that clip this morning, Scarborough and other panelists were left stunned more than anything else.
Scarborough then went on a riff on how he and others grew up with Disney, watching The Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. Scarborough then mocked DeMented for continuing this failed bid to attack the company and attempting to use it to his benefit in Iowa, when it’s not even helping him in his own state.
When it came time for panelist Gene Robinson to weigh in on the controversy, he couldn’t help but laugh, getting Scarborough to join in as well.
Robinson then said that what DeMented is doing is ridiculous. He continued, “This is the centerpiece? I can’t believe that he mentioned that as part of his argument why he should be the Republican nominee, let alone the president of the United States. This is Ahab-like, this pursuit of Disney.” Anyone who knows Herman Melville’s remarkable novel of Moby Dick will know how tragically it ends for Ahab. Robinson here is making the same analogy casting DeMented in the tragic incarnation of Captain Ahab struggling against the behemoth whale. As I had predicted, it does not look well for DeMented in his fight against Disney as of this moment. Instead of the novel’s famous opening line that most readers can recall very easily, which is “Call me Ishmael,” the opening line for DeMented’s presidential campaign should now be “Call me Ron DeMented, I’m the idiot running against Disney.” Guess who will win this contest? It will probably not be the antidemocratic governor of Florida, believe you me.
Stay safe and be well.
