Coronavrius Diary

Today is Friday, June 16, 2023. In a blistering war of words, the people behind the advocacy group The Lincoln Project fired back at the twice-indicted, twice-impeached, convicted sexual abuser former president in a video that mocked his 37-count indictment. Subsequently, Dumpf got his jollies off by writing on his ludicrous “Truth” Social platform that the Lincoln Project was composed of “perverts and misfits.”

Reacting to the inflammatory post, Republican strategist and member of Lincoln Project, Rick Wilson responded in kind, and in a video, he labeled the former leader of the free world as a “mendacious scumbag.”

This back-and-forth is covered in an online article for Raw Story by Tom Boggioni entitled “Rick Wilson brutally buries ‘scumbag’ Trump after Lincoln Project meltdown.”

After Dumpf wrote his snarky remarks about his critics on Truth Social, Wilson fired back, mincing no words, leading him to tweet, “well, good morning to you, too, princess. Did you wake up with a wet Depends this morning? Because you seem pissy.”

Wilson wasn’t finished with his takedown of the recently indicted ex-president, as he said in the responsive video “We’re always willing to tell the truth about the low, loathsome, corrupt, venal, mendacious scumbag [oooh, that should hurt this skin-thinned cockroach!] that you are.” Having gotten through those opening pleasantries, Wilson continued, “You know we’re alway right,” before adding he heard the espionage ad is “really the one that made you angry.” In the video, the Lincoln Project say that Dumpf joins a select group of people indicted for violating the Espionage Act and then condemns those spineless repugnicans who have come to his miserable defense. “People who commit this crime belong in prison, not the White House!” the ad concludes. Amen! I can see how this video would jangle the embattled former commander in “grief.” Of course, he couldn’t have left it alone; he had to put his two cents in as surely as his name is Donald J. Trump.

As many of us scratch our heads thinking that being indicted should seriously hurt, not help, anyone charged with crimes against the American people, a new online article finally indicates that this will not be good for Dumpf in the long run. The outlet is The New Republic and the article is written by Alex Shepard and its title is “It Turns Out Being Indicted is Not Good for Donald Trump.”

Can you believe that Dumpf is now riding on the financial wave of fund-raising off his last indictment and has said in a fucking defiant speech to Georgia’s Republicans last weekend that “The only good thing about it is it’s driven my poll numbers up”?

This alleged traitor to America’s national security has raked in millions after sending out dozens of fundraising emails decrying a politically motivated “witch hunt” from “misfits, mutants, Marxists & communists.” (I think that anyone who still buys this garbage and donates money to Dumpf is a fucking fool!) We don’t want to know that he raised nearly twice as much in a similar fundraising push made earlier after being indicted in the spring for sending hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

But there are growing signs that this indictment for endangering America’s national security will be damaging to Dumpf politically in the long run. An ABC News/ipsos poll released earlier this week found that 61 percent of voters believed the indictment was “serious,” as opposed to 28 percent who viewed it as “not serious.”

It does seem that Dumpf’s numbers among independents and repugnicans may be flagging. Democrats, though, have largely stayed silent about this development and have not pressed the case that the former president wantonly and recklessly endangered America’s national security, but, thank God, that may be changing. As the case against Dumpf will proceed slowly over the coming months and may stretch well into the 2024 election, Democrats will need to make a big case of this if they want to derail his candidacy and eventual ascendency to the White House.

So this weekend is Father’s Day. For those of us who are fathers, I wish you a happy Father’s Day. As for me, I was pleasantly surprised when I got back from the city after seeing Wes Anderson’s new film Asteroid City starring a gaggle of stars and found a large box of Junior’s Cheesecake on our kitchen table. At first, Elliot and I couldn’t determine who sent this delicious gift, until I finally saw my son’s name etched on the side. There was no card or anything in the box – just two large cheesecakes. One plain and the other an apple crumb cheesecake. I texted my son who is back in Michigan for a former employer’s retirement party and thanked him for the Father’s Day present.

There is no time to write my reaction to Asteroid City now. I hope to post my response to it tomorrow.

Have a good weekend.

Stay safe and be well.
