Today is Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Today the looming January 6 case against the former insurrectionist just exploded when the twice-impeached, twice-indicted former president informed his dimwitted base that he received a target letter from special counsel Jack Smith for his involvement in the failed coup against the government. So now, Dumpf could be facing his third indictment of the year after receiving the target letter in relation to the probe of his abominable postelection behavior in 2020. This unprecedented looming action is covered in a 19FortyFive article by Stephen Silver entitled “The Donald Trump January 6 Case Just Exploded.”
I won’t print Dumpf’s deranged ramblings that he posted on his ridiculously named Truth Social platform, but just know he supposedly received the communication from Smith on a Sunday night, even though Dumpf first posted it on his social network Tuesday morning.
As expected, Trump is also facing potential charges in Georgia, which are also related to his attempts to overturn the election.
Per CNN, Dumpf had received a target letter from Smith earlier this year, before he was indicted for his handling of classified documents. The new letter shows that Dumpf himself is a target of the investigation, rather than just those around him.
In this imminent indictment, Dumpf could face charges related to his engaging in a conspiracy to defraud the United States in the administration of elections and could also face charges in the “fake electors” scheme. He could also face charges of obstruction of an official proceeding. This stems from Dumpf’s use of Vice President Mike Pence in his presiding role on that day to either block Congress from recognizing Joe Biden’s win at all or at least delay the electoral count. When Pence refused to carry out Dumpf’s wishes, Trump went to his last ace in the hole: triggering an insurrection in the hope that it would throw Congress off course, delaying the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in American history. Another charge that Dumpf could face is inciting an insurrection and giving aid or comfort to insurrectionists.
It boggles the mind that this man is still the GOP frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race. Something needs to be done to derail this dictator in waiting from running for president again in 2024.
For those who might wonder what a second Dumpf presidency would mean for this country and for the world, a frightening analysis by America’s allies on a potential second term is rendered in a CNN Digital opinion by Frida Ghitis entitled “Opinion: Here’s what America’s allies think about a potential Trump second term.”
In her piece, Ghitis writes about her friends in the Netherlands who incorrectly believed that Dumpf was history after 2020; they were shocked to learn that Dumpf could be the nominee, and they are growing alarmed, according to Ghitis.
A second term would be considered cataclysmic by our European allies, as Dumpf achieves more power than in the first go-round, fueling his autocratic inclinations even more.
In a second Dumpf administration, the Department of Justice could lose its independence, coming under full control of the president, who would mobilize it against his foes and protect his corrupt friends. Other independent agencies would also lose their autonomy if Dumpf’s strategy succeeds.
The president’s power would reach every aspect of government if, as he vows, he reinstates “Schedule F,” an executive order that would make it possible for tens of thousands of federal workers to be fired at the president’s whim and be replaced with his acolytes.
Seeking to maximize his control, Trump is vowing to reserve the authority to “impound” congressionally approved funds for projects he opposes – an autocrat’s dream that was declared illegal by Congress half a century ago. But here Dumpf wouldn’t care about legality whatsoever.
Being an inveterate climate denier, Dumpf would now likely move to weaken, if not altogether end, efforts to slow global warming. The Republican Party, under Dumpf’s thrall, would do nothing as their Golden Idol gutted environmental regulations. He would also end birthright citizenship, stripping away the automatic right to be an American by virtue of being born in the United States.
Meanwhile, memories of Dumpf praising dictators from his earliest days in office, while insulting America’s allies, are returning. Europeans strongly believe Dumpf would withdraw the country from NATO – a move that would hollow out the alliance and leave the United States much weaker.
The Taiwanese are very afraid of a second Dumpf presidency because they remember the then-president praising Chinese leader Xi Jinping just before the pandemic, even as Beijing continued to crush Hong Kong’s democracy. It was no secret that Dumpf had little concern for human rights or democracy.
South Koreans are also fretting about a Dumpf return. They recall how he flirted with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, saying the two leaders “fell in love” – representing but one of many times the former president cozied up to a dictator.
South Koreans, Ghitis says, are passionately pro-American, “but they suffered from deep anxiety about Trump during his presidency. Some 9 in 10 had a positive view of their alliance with the US. But views of Trump have been dismal, as they have been in much of the world.”
When Dumpf entered the White House for the first time, only 9 percent of South Koreans had a favorable view of the new president, although a Gallup poll in 2018 showed an uptick in his approval to a still-low 32 percent.
Given how people outside the United States warily view this insurrectionist, the notion that Americans would reelect him seems hard to fathom. “Trump’s presidency left America bruised and divided. Recovery from that experience is a work in progress.”
So it would be not too implausible to say that a second term for Dumpf would be far, far more damaging to this country and to the world. “But if the nation has not yet healed from its four years of Trump’s stewardship, neither have the nation’s allies who remain shocked and mistrustful.”
Our allies then are bracing for the possibility of another horrifying American electoral surprise if Dumpf is not held accountable by our justice system. I say then, “let the indictments come forth!” The evidence against Dumpf is overwhelming in my opinion. Timing is of the essence here too. Let’s try Dumpf within a reasonable time before the 2024 election; it’s way too consequential not to.
This country cannot afford another four years under Donald Dumpf – it’s as simple as that!
Stay safe and be well.
