Today is Monday, July 24, 2023. Maybe the investigation into the actions of the former president to overturn the results of the 2020 election just heated up when it was disclosed today that former New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Bernie Kerik has struck a deal with the special counsel Jack Smith to turn over records in connection with the probe into Donald Dumpf’s alleged criminal actions, The Daily Beast reports. This story is covered in an online article for Raw Story by Gideon Rubin entitled “Bernie Kerik strikes deal with Jack Smith to turn over Trump records: report.”
As you might recall, Kerik worked for the president collecting evidence of alleged election fraud that was deemed without merit.
Kerik’s agreement to turn over documents to the Department of Justice (DOJ) signifies an end to a dispute in which the former NYPD boss initially declined to cooperate with investigators who sought the documents, the report said.
The reason for Kerik’s initial demurral with respect to working with DOJ entails his legal team claiming the request was a violation of attorney-client privilege, noting that Kerik worked with Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor who served as Trumpy Dumpty’s lawyer.
Now Kerik is expected to turn over approximately 2,000 pages of material documenting his efforts to find evidence in support of its investigation of Dumpf’s involvement in election fraud, the report indicated.
A writer for The Daily Beast writes that “the records could prove pivotal for federal prosecutors, who are seeking evidence of Trump’s decision making process as he relentlessly voiced baseless accusations that the 2020 election was ‘rigged,’ even though top advisers had told him otherwise.”
In 2009, Kerik pleaded guilty to eight felonies in connection with allegations he lied to the Bush administration in 2004 during his vetting process to become homeland security secretary.
Of course, the Orange Hemorrhoid pardoned the disgraced public servant in 2020. So let’s see what results from Mr. Kerik’s cooperation with federal authorities in this ever-expanding investigation into the actions of the former president over the 2020 election that he still maintains to this fucking day that he won!
In a lighter note, we have the far right’s moronic meltdown over that new film Barbie that stars Margot Robbie in the title character and a shirtless Ryan Gosling as her beau Ken. I have no intention of seeing this mother-daughter homage to a doll; I’d rather see Christopher Nolan’s biopic of Oppenheimer instead, since I saw the two-hour CNN documentary on the “father of the A-bomb” a while back. But far-right morons like Ted Cruz has declared war on this very popular film for no reason other to stick his Harvard-educated two cents in. To this aim, MSNBC anchors Mehdi Hasan and Ayman Mohyeldin mocked the “male conservative meltdown” over the film just yesterday on their respective programs.
Hasan brutally mocked the Texas “Cancun” Senator over his criticism of Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster, saying “Those are grown men losing their minds over a movie about a doll.” He also criticized conservator commentator Ben Shapiro who lost it in a video in which he is seen burning Barbie dolls in a trashcan. I actually saw this putrid video, even though I have no idea who Shapiro is since I don’t follow him at all.
Hasan then criticized the entire conservative movement in its current incarnation, saying, “What has happened to the conservative movement? There was a time when conservatives had substantive things to say about taxes, regulation, defense, foreign policy.” He added, now, it’s “Barbie this, Dr. Seuss that, Bud Light, Mr. Potato Head, the skin color of the Little Mermaid. It’s ridiculous. It’s childish. It’s pretty pathetic, actually.” Here Hasan touches on all of the current cultural bugaboos that conservatives have waged war against – from the color of M&Ms to the skin color of another fictional character, the Little Mermaid.
Mohyeldin noted the “desperation” and “arrogance” of Cruz and Shapiro, who claim to speak for the masses. But “they are once again wrong,” he said, citing blockbuster opening box office statistics for the film.
Then the MSNBC anchor put his finger on the true pulse of the movie-going public, saying “Americans were excited to see this movie, they know it’s just a movie and not some sinister ploy to brainwash the masses,” like Cruz and other idiots like himself would like us to think. Why are repugnicans so damn unfunny, as this piece of news would accurately attest? They are, for the most part, extremely dour and critical of things that aren’t there like the made-up controversy over M&Ms and, now, the evil intent of the filmmakers behind Barbie. Oh, give us a damn break!
As for both films premiering last weekend, the box office revenues from these films have topped all expectations. They couldn’t be more polar opposite of one another, as Gerwig’s film explores the decades-long fascination with Mattel’s blond doll, while Oppenheimer seriously examines the life and career of theoretical physicist and director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the architect of the atomic bomb that was dropped on two Japanese cities during the waning days of the Second World War that resulted in Japan’s surrender to the allied powers. Those who come to see Barbie, I hear, are dressed like their favorite Barbie doll. Also, there is a lot of pink in the audience from what I hear. This is very good news for the film industry since COVID slashed theaters’ box office revenues very deeply. People preferred to stay home and watch films on their streaming services. I, on the other hand, was quite happy to be able to return to movie theaters when it was safe to do so. So if you see either of these two films, let me know what you think.
Stay safe and be well.
