Coronavirus Diary

Today is Thursday, July 27, 2023. This just in: special counsel Jack Smith has brought additional charges against former president Donald Dumpf in the case alleging mishandling of classified documents, including one additional count of willful retention of national defense information and two additional obstruction counts, related to alleged attempts to delate surveillance video footage at Mar-a-Lago Club in the summer of 2022, court documents show. Boy, if these charges don’t stick in a court of law, I can’t see why they won’t. These are deadly serious charges against the ultimate con man and they must not be dismissed by his dimwitted supporters!

According to the court filing, Dumpf employees attempted to delete security footage at the Florida resort and said, “the boss” wanted a server deleted.

New charges were also filed against Dumpf’s aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker Carlos De Oliveira was added to the case. Trump and Nauta were charged in the probe last month and have pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, in the special counsel’s 2020 election investigation into the Orange Hemorrhoid, the timing of a possible indictment is still unclear. Smith met with Dumpf’s defense lawyers today, without the former president’s team getting any guidance about the timing, sources told CNN. But the Orange Grifter called the team’s meeting “productive” which means nothing.

New details in the superseding indictment against the principal architect of the January 6, 2021 seizure of the Capitol contradict the previous denials about the classified Iran attack plans that Dumpf flaunted during an audiotaped meeting at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

These new charges confirm that the document in question was indeed classified and about “military activity in a foreign country,” which CNN reported is Iran.

The lying Dumpf has denied that the paper he showed to biographers at Bedminster in July 2021 was a government document and claimed it was merely a news clipping. So now this new superseding indictment contradicts that absurd denial.

This stunning new development is covered in an online CNN article by Tierney Sneed, Marshall Cohen, and Jeremy Herb entitled “Special counsel brings more charges against Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago classified documents case.”

In this new indictment, prosecutors allege that those two Dumpf employees – Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira – attempted to delete security camera footage at Dumpf’s Mar-a-Lago resort after the Justice Department (DOJ) issued a subpoena for the footage. This amounts to willful obstruction of justice, in my nonlegal mind.

The maintenance worker, Carlos De Oliveira, 56, was charged with lying to the FBI about moving boxes containing classified materials.

De Oliveira was the maintenance worker who helped Walt Nauta move boxes of classified documents around the Florida resort after the DOJ first subpoenaed Dumpf for classified documents last May.

CNN has previously reported that surveillance footage turned over to the DOJ showed Nauta and De Oliveira moving document boxes around the compound, including into a storage room just before Dumpf lawyer Evan Corcoran searched it for classified documents.

The Justice department has subsequently said in court that it believes “government records were likely concealed and removed from the Storage Room.”

De Oliveira has been summoned to appear at 10:30 a.m. ET on July 31 in federal court in Miami. It would be unconscionable if this low-level employee of the Orange Hemorrhoid doesn’t give up his boss in the light of the grim reality he now faces – many years in jail. So let’s see what happens with this new blockbuster indictment against the principal insurrectionist of the failed Capitol coup.

Now Jamie Raskin states that Dumpf willfully took classified documents and possibly intended to do something nefarious with them. He’s being interviewed by Jen Psaki on her program on MSNBC. It’s pretty hard to believe that a former president acted this recklessly, but this is Dumpf, nobody else, so we have to accept the terrible truth that a traitor to our fundamental principles walks among us, even in the People’s House. But let’s see what Republicans do now in light of these more significant charges against their Golden Boy. Will they freeze like House Minority Leader “Bitch” McConnell in the middle of a press conference? And say nothing about this superseding indictment against their Dear Leader?

Today I’m ending somewhat earlier since Elliot and I are taking to the road tomorrow – in the middle of a heat wave here in the Northeast – to drive down to Silver Spring, Maryland, to visit Elliot’s daughter, “Emily,” and her husband, “Allan.” We intend to stay at a Double Tree by Hilton Hotel 20 minutes away while spending the weekend with them. On the way up to New York, we intend to spend late Sunday with my best chum “Harold” and his wife “Rachel.” Thus we expect to return to Forest Hills on Monday then after sleeping over Harold and Rachel’s house.

So I might be back here on Monday evening, or not. I have to see how I feel after all of that sitting in the car. And here we said we weren’t going to take any more long drives after our cross-country trip in May. This marks our first extended excursion.

So stay cool and have a very good weekend.

Stay safe and be well.
