Today is Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Today another shameful chapter in American politics was written as Attorney General Merrick Garland was grilled by MAGA Republicans on the Hill as they investigate the Department of Justice’s alleged favoritism extended to the son of President Joe Biden, Hunter. Garland engaged in testy exchanges with the extreme branch of the Republican Party that is now dominant, unfortunately, in the House under the feckless leadership of Dumpf loyalist Kevin “Kiss the Ring” McCarthy. A CNN article online today reports on the key takeaways from the combative House Judiciary Committee hearing with the embattled attorney general by Jeremy Herb that appears to offer a preview of the coming Republican impeachment inquiry into Biden focused on allegations surrounding his son, Hunter Biden.
The Judiciary Committee Republicans peppered Garland with questions about the Justice Department inquiry into Hunter Biden, charging that Garland and the special counsel investigating the case, David Weiss, were doing the bidding of the Bidens by offering Hunter Biden a plea deal that collapsed amid scrutiny from a judge.
In response, Garland forcefully pushed back against the criticisms, saying he did not interfere in the investigation and that Weiss was given all the resources he asked for in the probe. Garland repeatedly declined to engage on specifics of the inquiry, however, frustrating the MAGAts.
The attorney general also didn’t engage in GOP attacks against special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into former president Donald Frump.
In his opening statement, Garland rebuked congressional repugnicans, saying, “I am not the president’s lawyer. I will also add that I am not Congress’ prosecutor.” Here his comments should be construed as a rejection of his predecessor, “Jabba the Hut” William Barr, who did behave as if he was the president’s private lawyer and prosecutor all wrapped into one.
One of the worst persons on the planet, “Congressman “Gym” Jordan, had the temerity to accuse the Justice Department of not prosecuting Hunter Biden over the tax years when Hunter was on the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. The worst-dressed (John Letterman notwithstanding) “lawmaker” claimed that Hunter’s work on Burisma was related to Joe Biden and the then-vice president’s demand that Ukraine fire its prosecutor general – even though Biden was carrying out bipartisan U.S. policy that the prosecutor was not doing enough to prosecute corruption, including at Ukrainian companies like Burisma.
The man in the hot seat, Garland, repeatedly rejected allegations from repugnicans and an IRS whistleblower that the Hunter Biden investigation was tainted by politics, and that he did not interfere with the probe in any way.
With rising frustration, Garland repeated, “I’m going to say again, and again, if necessary, I did not interfere with, did not investigate, did not make determinations on the Hunter Biden case.” Do you think these ghouls accepted the attorney general’s flat-out repudiation regarding the contention that he interfered in any way with the probe into the Hunter Biden case here? I sincerely doubt that they have; they’ve already made up their minds on the matter.
I’m not writing anymore about this shitshow since it is ridiculous and shouldn’t have ever been held. I’m sure a majority of Americans are not interested in the political stunts being carried out on the Hill by these horrendous MAGAts. They have more important things to do like make a living and pay their bills and go about their daily lives. This pandering by repugnicans to their red meat base will severely cost them in the upcoming election, I’m positive of that.
However, one great moment in this shameful hearing was the humiliation of that fucker Gym Jordan by California Representative Eric Swalwell who swiped at Jordan for saying that Garland should be held in contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena. He pointedly castigates Jordan for not complying with a Congressional committee subpoena to provide testimony before the January 6 committee last year, I believe. So this asshole has no credibility right now when he says that Garland should be held in contempt of Congress. Shame on you, Gym Jordan!
Now there is a bombshell (if there is such a thing anymore in light of the disclosures made since the insurrection on January 6 and the events leading up to it) revelation from former White House aide and assistant to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Cassidy Hutchinson, who offered riveting testimony in front of the January 6 committee about the terrible events of January 6, 2021, to the American nation, about Rudy “Face Melting” Giuliani that he groped her under a tent on that fateful day. She’s made these allegations in a new book scheduled to be released very soon. Oye, what a shanda!
Even though “Ghoul”iani was not charged, according to Hutchinson’s serious allegations, he is indeed facing a financial Waterloo as a result of his increasing legal woes as a codefendant in the Georgia election subversion case. Today an article in the Daily News, written by Molly Crane-Newman, lays out the former New York mayor’s mounting legal bills entitled “Att’y sues Rudy for more than $1M in fees: Says ex-mayor hasn’t paid for defending him in Jan. 6 probe.”
Thus Rudy Giuliani has been sued for more than $1 million in unpaid legal bills by his longtime confidante and lead lawyer, Bob Costello, according to court filings.
In a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit filed on Monday, Costello and the firm Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP, where he is a partner, alleged the disgraced former mayor and Dumpf adviser owes them nearly $1.4 million for legal services.
According to the suit, Ghouliani still hasn’t paid Costello for representing him in federal probes and investigations stemming from the January 6 riot, his alleged unregistered lobbying for Ukraine, the Georgia prove into election subversion efforts, and other related matters.
The firm has billed “America’s felon” around $1.5 million which covers the period from November 2019 to about July 2023, of which Ghouliani has just paid $214,000, according to the suit.
Costello, who’s known the disbarred attorney for decades, defended him against the greatest legal threats he’s faced ever since he was thrust into the public eye, says he’s only seeking full reimbursement for legal services rendered and no further fees.
Defending himself, Ghouliani said this of Costello and of the suit: “I can’t express how personally hurt I am by what Bob Costello has done. It’s a real shame when lawyers do things like this, and all I will say is that their bill is way in excess to anything approaching legitimate fees.”
Costello, however, noted it was a “little late” for Ghouliani to complain about his fees years after he first billed him. He went on, “How can he take a personal affront when he owes my firm $1.4 million?” he said when reached by the Daily News. “I mean, he’s playing the victim here – are you kidding me?” he postulated.
On top of Ghouliani’s criminal indictment in Georgia is a dizzying array of lawsuits and sanctions requests against him for unpaid legal bills and court antics. He was recently found liable for defaming two Georgia election workers and faces potentially mammoth damages in the Smartmatic voting case, if found liable.
Because of his mounting legal bills, Ghouliani recently put up his $6.5 million apartment for sale. He is also currently embroiled in another Manhattan lawsuit in which he’s accused of framing a Staten Island supermarket worker for assault, who had patted him on the back and called him a “scumbag” [he is!] according to CCTV footage and court records. I remember this incident; the worker had to spend a night in jail, unnecessarily, as I recall. I’m actually glad this fellow is suing the bastard.
In the meantime, Giuliani is facing disbarment and has a suspended law license.
All this article is finally signifying is that accountability is a bitch and it couldn’t happen to a better creep than Ghouliani who is now in glorious company with his Orange Hemorrhoid boss as a sexual predator, according to Hutchinson’s allegations in her new book. What a nice fella, this Rudy Giuliani is!
I do hope accountability will be knocking on many others’ doors real soon as well. We just have to wait awhile.
Stay safe and be well.
