Today is Saturday, October 28, 2023. This will be a very brief blog since I just came back having dinner with two friends who don’t want to be mentioned here for whatever reason, so I will honor their wishes and not name them, even though I don’t do so anyway. As you know, I generally use pseudonyms, not real names in this blog.
Since it’s so late, I’m at a loss for words here. One of the leading news stories coming out today is the sudden announcement by former Vice President Mike Pence to suspend his campaign for president amid lagging poll numbers and financial challenges. There was major concern in Pence’s campaign that he wasn’t going to qualify for the third debate stage next month, one source informed CNN. That concern was a driving factor in Pence’s decision, a Republican adviser close to his campaign said. The real reason is that voters didn’t like him; he is such a staunch conservative that he is out of touch with many regular Americans. Even though he publicly broke with his former boss, Donald Chump, over that infamous day in January 2021, he refused to offer testimony before the select committee investigating the insurrection on that day. It’s those wearing a MAGA hat who view his role on that day where he performed his true ceremonial duties as a vice president and not as a puppet of Donald Chump as being strangely traitorous and it’s this group that he would never entrance with his presidential ambitions. I say, “good riddance that he’s gone!” Now if only Ron DeSatan could make such a similar announcement in due time . . . Let’s see what happens.
The other leading story I just heard on MSNBC and that is the sudden death of Friends costar Matthew Perry at the tender age of 54 from an accidental drowning. He allegedly died in an apparent drowning accident at his Los Angeles home today, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources. Immediately the eulogies from cast members and from fans around the world were broadcast all over. I was not a viewer of the show, but I can identify with the impact that the show has had on so many viewers. Rest in peace, Matthew Perry!
Have a good Sunday.
Stay safe and be well.
