Today is Monday, November 13, 2023. Returning to the courtroom where he first gave testimony as a witness for the prosecution, Don. Jr., the former president’s eldest son, in the sprawling civil fraud lawsuit against his father and his father’s organization, provided new testimony for the defense and what a hunk of shit he spooned out which spurred the attorney general, Letitia James, to walk out during his long-winded testimony designed to burnish his family’s now-tarnished business reputation as a result of the charges against it. The testimony provided by Don, Jr. is covered in an online CNN article by Jeremy Herb, Lauren del Valle, and Kara Scannell entitled “Takeaways from Donald Trump Jr.’s return to court in the $250 million civil fraud trial.”
Today the former would-be dictator’s son literally gushed about the family’s properties that he said his father had transformed from dilapidated run-down tracts of land into spectacular and magnificent buildings and golf courses. During his garrulous testimony, Don Jr. glowed as he described his family’s vast portfolio – lauding praise on his father as a visionary and a real estate “artist” and talking up the value of the buildings after six weeks of testimony from the attorney general alleging that the valuations of the properties were fraudulently inflated.
Here are several takeaways from today’s testimony:
- Trump Jr. boasts about the Trump Organization portfolio
Without giving you the minutia of Don Jr’s agonizing self-preening testimony, suffice it to know that he described ad nauseam the organization’s various golf courses, clubhouses, architecture, and other features of the Trump properties as beauty shots were displayed in the courtroom.
- The Mar-a-Lago valuation fight
Trump lawyer Cliff Robert and Don Jr. took a swipe at the attorney general’s claims about the Florida resort’s ultimate valuation and the judge’s ruling against them. Don Jr. indicated that he was a bit upset over the ruling that his father’s Florida property was worth only $18 million. He pouted that you couldn’t even build an atrium for $18 million today. The judge’s ruling before the start of the trial cited tax assessor data that appraised the property at $18 million – a figure that has drawn criticism from the former president.
- Judge gives Trump’s team leeway, with an eye toward the looming appeal fight
While the attorney general’s office objected to much of the defense presentation today, it was Judge Arthur Engoron who offered Chump’s lawyers plenty of leeway to make their case, acknowledging out loud the fact that Trump’s attorneys are likely to try to reverse the ruling he ultimately makes through an appeal. So by allowing witnesses like the coke-addicted oldest son of the insurrectionist to carry on with this worthless testimony, Engoron is preempting the other side from appealing his negative ruling. Eventually, Engoron did say at one point that most of the testimony was really irrelevant. I pity all of the people in that courtroom who were forced to listen to Don Jr’s blather.
- Trump Jr. testimony signals direction of Trump’s defense
The use of Don Jr.’s testimony today signals the line of defense that Chump’s lawyers, mainly that the defendants didn’t do anything intentionally wrong, that Chump’s financial statements were not misleading, and that different people can come up with different values for the same property.
In addition to Don Jr., Chump attorneys have said they are likely to call back Eric Trump, another piece of garbage, and the former president, both of whom also previously testified.
In this case, the judge has already ruled that Chump and his codefendants were liable for fraud, in a summary judgement issued before the trial began. But the attorney general’s office is still seeking to prove six additional claims against the Orange Hemorrhoid, including conspiracy, falsifying business records, issuing false financial statements, and insurance fraud.
The trial is expected to continue until early December.
Ion the meantime, Chump’s comments made on Veterans Day to a crowd of stupid supporters in New Hampshire have chilled political pundits everywhere for its appalling resemblance to previous statements made by the dictator of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler. These comments also echo those made by Italy’s Benito Mussolini. These comments I didn’t quote the other day, but they bear repeating here for everyone to consider before voting for this out-and-out fascist. To supporters, he pledged to “root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists, and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our Country, lie, steal, and cheat on Elections [again he’s describing himself here, as usual] and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American Dream” [again, he’s describing his twisted efforts to destroy America himself].
Presidential historian Jon Meacham linked Chump’s recent comments pledging to “root out” the “vermin” of the U.S. to fascist dictators of the 1930s. His overview of Chump’s statements are covered in an online article for The Hill by Miranda Nazzaro entitled “Historian Meacham links Trump ‘vermin’ comments to ‘most ghastly kinds of crimes.'”
MNBC’s Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, speaking with Meacham today, said Chump should “pay some royalties to Mussolini’s family trust” and that the former president is “lifting” the rhetoric from totalitarian dictator Benito Mussolini and other fascists from the past. Meacham interjected: “And from the Third Reich, and using the 1930s as an example of anything is a fraught enterprise.”
Scarborough noted that that the Orange Turd has praised various dictators, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un.
Meacham said this about the Orange Turd’s new chilling comments, “Because to call your opponent vermin, to dehumanize them, is to not only open the door, but to walk through the door toward the most ghastly kinds of crimes.”
The Orange Turd’s campaign team had the gall to lash out at the criticism of his remarks over the holiday weekend. What they said is even more chilling than what their orange slob said over the weekend. They ridiculously said that people criticizing what their Dear Leader said were “snowflakes” and were suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and went on to say that their “sad, miserable existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.” This is what his campaign team stated when confronted with the truth of their boss’s fascistic comments. They attack the people questioning the irregularity of such comments and fall back on the sorriest excuse for attacking Trump: being seized with Trump Derangement Syndrome, as if there’s no reason to feel that this country would be in mortal danger if he ever wins back the White House. These people are just as delusional as Chump is.
Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a historian at New York University, told The Washington Post, that “calling people ‘vermin’ was used effectively by Hitler and Mussolini to dehumanize people and encourage their followers to engage in violence.”
The cowardly Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel would not comment on the sick words spewed out by Chump over the weekend. She dodged reporters’ questions about the Orange Turd’s ghastly comments, saying she will not comment on candidates and their messaging. What a dodge! She wouldn’t say anything about how despicable this messaging actually is. This is what’s wrong with this fucking party today. No one will criticize a deranged frontrunner for the office of president.
We must all stand up and denounce this fascist clown whenever he opens his stinking mouth!
Stay safe and be well.
