Coronavirus Diary

Today is Wednesday, January 10, 2024.     Two despicable members of Congress, “Gym” Jordan and blonde bimbo Marjorie Taylor Greene, she of Jewish laser fame, got their comeuppance at the hands of much brighter and articulate members of Congress, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Eric Swalwell of California in heated exchanges in the halls of Congress.  The first one involves Swallwell’s sweet turnaround of the House Judiciary Committee Chair “Gym” Jordan’s rant against the president’s son, Hunter Biden, ignoring a subpoena to testify before Congress.   This exchange between the more qualified Swalwell and the inept Jordan is covered in an online Media ITE article by Jamie Frevele entitled ‘Is This a Joke?’  Eric Swalwell Asks Jim Jordan ‘How Dumb’ He Thinks American People Are About Subpoena Compliance.”

Swalwell brilliantly turned the tables on the clueless Jordan who was trying to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for allegedly violating a subpoena.    In a separate hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee today, just down the hall from the House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing where Hunter made a shocking surprise appearance to indicate his willingness to testify publicly, Swalwell asked Jordan flat-out: ”Mr. Chairman, is this a joke?”

The California congressman used the rest of his time to rail against Jordan about his own refusal to comply with a subpoena that was issued to him by the House Select Committee that investigated the January 6 insurrection and 2020 election interference.   The actual transcript of his remarks is worthy of repeating here, since Swalwell made mincemeat of the sartorially challenged Trump acolyte, who himself should be investigated for that Ohio gym scandal years ago, but somehow is still scot free for whatever reason.

“No, seriously, is this hearing a joke?  This is a committee that now cares about subpoena compliance, and we’re going to hold somebody in contempt for subpoena compliance?    That’s really interesting because to me, it seems like you believe we all had our memories wiped 608 days ago when you failed to honor your own subpoena.

“You see, on May 31, 2022, as the January 6 Committee was investigating the greatest crime ever committed in America, with the most arrests, the most convictions, a crime against our Congress, our Constitution, our democracy, all they wanted was for you and a few of your colleagues to cooperate, to provide any information you had.   And what you all did for 608 days and counting, you didn’t show up.   And you want us to take this proceeding seriously where you had an issue with somebody else’s compliance with a subpoena.  Somebody who actually willing is to come forward publicly, something you were not willing to do, something you and [Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)] and others who were asked to testify were not willing to do.

“So seriously, is this a joke?  If it’s a joke, great.  This whole Congress has been a joke. So it would be in line and on brand with what has been taking place.  But I have to ask, how dumb do you think the American people are that you would seek to hold someone in contempt when you are 608 days, 15 hours, 21 minutes, and 47 seconds out of compliance of your own subpoena?    I don’t know, Mr. Chairman, if it is your practice to look the other way when crimes are committed.  But it’s not my practice, and it’s not my colleagues’ practice.”

Swalwell ends his blistering takedown of the shameless Jordan by saying the entire repugnican party has become the “biggest law firm in Washington, D.C., to work every single day in this building on behalf of just one client, the former President Donald Trump, and to carry out his petty grievances every single day.”

Bravo, Mr. Swalwell for calling out the debased hypocrisy of this shameless man who really thinks Americans are dumb and are not aware of what’s going on in Congress since his party unfortunately took the reins of power in 2022.  We must get these goons out in 2024!

The intellectually challenged Greene was called out by several Democrats today during the circus known as the Hunter Biden hearing in which the President’s son walked out of the room after the nasally repugnant woman began chiding him for leaving the committee hearing.    Biden actually left after the conservative witch began speaking.    Hell, I would have left myself if I heard that nasal twang of hers; it’s like nails on a chalkboard, which is so grating.    As this nut began speaking, he walked out and she was heard saying, “Excuse me, Hunter! [who is she to use the more familiar “Hunter” than the more respectful “Mr. Biden?”] Apparently, you’re afraid of my words.”  That’s when Hunter left the room.

Biden’s hasty departure could be connected to Greene’s decision to display nude photos of Biden participating in sex acts during a separate hearing last year.  Rep. Jamie Raskin opposed Greene entering information to the record, observing that Democrats had not yet seen what she was attempting to enter. ”In the past, she’s displayed pornography.   Are pornographic photos allowed to be displayed in this committee room?” Raskin said.   Greene snottily replied, “It’s not pornography.” Raskin responded, “OK, you’re the expert, to which Greene said, “I’m not an expert. [that’s for sure, baby!]

Another representative, Rep. Robert Garcia of Florida, also hit out at Greene for her criticism of Biden during the hearing.  ”It’s really interesting to hear the gentle lady from Georgia speak about Hunter Biden leaving the room,” he said.  ”She is the person that showed nude photos of Hunter Biden in this very committee room showing, showing dick pics in this committee room of Hunter Biden.” He continued, noting, “I think it’s really ironic.   Hypocritical and quite shameful that the person who’s complaining about somebody leaving when she is showing nude photos of him to this committee in this very room.”  Garcia also took aim at Greene’s shameful support of January 6 insurrectionists who participated in the Capitol attacks.  He castigated Greene thusly, “I was there with you when we went to the January 6th jail and when you were hugging, high-fiving, talking to, and providing so much comfort and joy to the insurrectionists at the Capitol.   You were.  You were hugging and giving them all the support.”   This is when every principled American should retch after hearing how this traitorous Georgia Peach gave support and succor to the Capitol rioters.

So today, two dishonorable members of Congress got a tongue lashing from their Democratic colleagues.    Oh, how sweet it was!

Representative Jamie Raskin, just like Rep. Eric Swalwell, went on the warpath against House repugnicans who have so far failed to comply with House subpoenas in testifying for the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot and have the temerity to call out Hunter Biden for supposedly not doing so.   The verbal fireworks are contained in an online article for TheMessenger by Kayla Gallagher entitled “Dem Rep. Raskin Ridicules house GOP for ‘Zero Percent Compliance’ With Jan. 6 Subpoenas While Suggesting Hunter Biden Contempt.”

Raskin called out his repugnican colleagues for maintaining a “zero compliance” record when it came to testifying before the now-defunct January 6 panel.

“If they don’t want to comply with the subpoena, they won’t and yet they would now hold other witnesses like Hunter Biden to a standard they won’t accept for themselves,” Raskin indicated.  He said this while sitting next to the loathsome Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY).

The Maryland representative went on to accuse House Republicans like Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania of avoiding subpoenas to appear before Congress and share their knowledge of the events leading up to and on the day of the January 6, 2021, Capitol siege.

The congressman defended Hunter Biden, saying he did respond to the committee’s deposition requests, agreeing to appear as long as it was for public testimony (which Comer really didn’t want for some reason) and not behind closed doors, which the committee rejected.   Things can get sketchy if a hearing is held behind closed doors and Hunter Biden must have known this.    He has refused to sit for a closed-door deposition, arguing that it would give repugnicans a chance to railroad him by distorting what is actually said in the meeting.    And, boy, do we know these ugly repugnicans would stoop to this without hesitation.

The 2024 presidential race loses one more repugnican candidate today when former New Jersey governor Chris Christie announced he’s dropping out of the race.  In my opinion, he was - and will continue to be – the only fit candidate for the repugnican nomination for president, not Nikki Haley, definitely not Ron De”Satan,” and surely not Vivek Ramsawarmy, who is a big mouth of gigantic proportions.

Christie made his announcement to supporters in New Hampshire, on the heels of a new batch of disappointing poll numbers.   He had hoped a less conservative electorate would coalesce around his sharp opposition to Chump, whom he described as “devoid of character.”

Talking at the Windham town hall, Christie told his supporters, “It is clear to me tonight there isn’t a path for me to win the nomination, which is why I’m suspending my campaign tonight for President of the United States.”  He promised that he would never “enable Donald Trump to become, to be ever be president of the United States again.”

Christie is the only critical voice in the race to take on Dump frontally (no pun intended) and his honest assessment of the greatest threat to democracy will be missed.   No one will hear this from the other contenders and, as Christie has rightfully said, “Anyone who is unwilling to say (Trump) is unfit to be president of the United States is unfit themselves to be president of the United States.”   Again, Christie was the only candidate who recognized Trump as an existential threat to American democracy, and with his dropping out of the race, his voice will not be reclaimed by any of the remaining terribly unfit and weak candidates.    How sad!

Oops, it’s getting late.   Elliot and I watched the ending to The Golem, a 2018 modern retelling of the Jewish folkloric tale of a manmade protector of the Jewish people.  In this retelling, the “monster” is not a creature made out of stone, but a six- or seven-year-old human-looking boy.   It took some getting used to this small figure being able to wreak such mayhem on the Gentiles from a neighboring village.

Anyway, Atticus continued his exploration of the apartment, now leaping on tables and the like, which he didn’t do earlier.   It’s only his fifth day with us.   He’s actually very alert right now and is enjoying playing with his new turbo scratcher toy.  He’s actually looking straight at me as I’m typing this blog.   It’s like he wants me to stop what I’m doing and pay attention to him.

Stay safe and be well.

Here Atticus is very comfortable in Elliot’s chair.

Now he’s sitting on the arm of the chair.
