Today is Sunday, March 10, 2024. As I had predicted, Saturday Night Live began its Saturday show with a ferocious mocking of Senator Katie Britt’s terrible and universally condemned Republican response to President Biden’s State of the Union speech. Too bad I didn’t see the program, but I did get to see Scarlett Johansson’s biting skit on Instagram. Wearing a black wig, Johansson nailed the clueless senator’s speech from her kitchen in an outrageous attempt to draw the suburban woman’s vote but most assuredly failed on a monumental scale instead.
Wearing a plastered smile and a bejeweled cross fitting for both “da church and da club,” Johansson had some great lines in the skit. In an online article for IndieWire by Christian Blauvelt entitled “On ‘SNL,’ Scarlett Johansson’s Katie Britt turns Her State of the Union Response Into a QVC Segment,” some of those lines are recreated.
At the beginning, the usually blonde actress said, “Tonight I’ll be auditioning for the part of Scary Mom. And I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This country Is Hell.’ You see, I’m not just a senator. I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot. I’m worried about the future of our children, and this is why I’ve invited you into this strange empty kitchen. Because Republicans want me to appeal to women voters. And women love kitchen.”
Capturing the scary intensity of the senator’s original pitch, Johansson goes on: “But seriously, my husband Wesley and I just watched President Biden’s speech, and what I saw was the performance of a permanent politician. But me, I’m not performing. I’m not! I’m not! [hand goes to forehead in dramatic gesture] But, first and foremost, I’m a mom, and like any mom I’m going to do a pivot out of nowhere into a shockingly violent story about sex trafficking, and rest assured, every detail about it is real except the year, where it took place, and who was president when it happened.”
Then Johansson pivoted into a saleswoman for QVC when she said, “And tonight I’m not just responding to the State of the Union. I’m also selling these gorgeous bejeweled cross necklaces for QVC. This affinity diamond necklace goes with anything, and you can wear it from da church to da club.”
This was probably the best political skit SNL has produced so far of the 2024 political season. But the material provided by Britt herself made it so much easier to come up with an alternative caricature starring Scarlett Johansson.
The woman at the center of Britt’s disgusting repugnican response identified herself on CNN, and her name is Karla Jacinto. She disproved many of the assertions made by Britt and said she was not trafficked by Mexican cartels, but by a pimp. No one reached out to her to make such a political statement, she commented to CNN’s Rafael Romo. Now this reprehensible senator has to appear on Fox News to qualify some of those claims. It seems that now she’s backtracking which is what many liars are forced to do when confronted with the truth. Jacinto mentioned that she was “trafficked” before Biden’s presidency, but Britt made it seem that this happened during Biden’s presidency. She called the use of her story “not fair.” Another part of the story that was untrue in Britt’s retelling of it was that Jacinto was trafficked in the United States. She claimed she was never exploited in this country, as Britt implied. She said she was kept in captivity from 2004 to 2008, when President George W. Bush was in office and when Biden was just a senator.
Here is another great reason to soundly reject repugnicans at the ballot box.
Anyway, it’s getting late here. It’s time for the Oscars to finish, maybe. It’s only been on for four hours!
Today was a very lovely day, albeit quite long, since we left Forest Hills, about 10 a.m. to drive to Princeton, New Jersey, to visit my very good friend’s son and daughter-in-law in their new home there. Having breakfast in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, at Mike’s Royal Diner, we made our way to New Jersey and got to “Zander” and Nalah”‘s house around the time we were expected, about 1 p.m. We brought my yellow cake with chocolate frosting to share with everyone since it’s my friend “Harold”‘s birthday tomorrow. We had a beautiful visit with everyone, especially with Zander and Nalah’s almost-one-year-old daughter, “Naomi.” There were two dogs present as well, Cupcake, Zander and Nalah’s dog, as well as “Harold” and “Rachel”‘s dog, Teddy. Nalah prepared a delicious lunch consisting of salmon, salad, and rice. There were two cakes for Harold – mine and another chocolate cake provided by Zander and Nalah. After lunch, we all left the house to take a walk around the development.
We left around 5 p.m. and didn’t get home until about 8:30 since we stopped for dinner at Jax Inn Diner, on Northern Boulevard. We tried to stop at Veselka, the Ukrainian restaurant on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue, but couldn’t find a parking spot. So we drove back to Queens where we were able to park in Jax Inn Diner’s parking lot.
Now I’m quite fatigued. I will say have a good week. I’m still adjusting to this horrible Daylight Saving Time change.
Oh, and Atticus did fine all those hours when we were away. He didn’t destroy anything in that time, which is quite good.
Stay safe and be well.

Here is my cake on Zander and Nalah’s kitchen table before it was cut up.
