Coronavirus Diary

Today is Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Today President Joe Biden won enough delegates to secure his party’s presidential nomination after winning the Georgia democratic primary, CNN projects. Unfortunately, former Dumpster Donald Duck is also projected to win Georgia’s GOP primary, thus becoming the presumptive Republican frontrunner. CNN projects that both candidates will also win their respective Mississippi primaries. In Mississippi, Donald Duck won 93.1 percent of those votes cast, while Nikki Haley only snagged 4.3 percent of the votes cast. Where was the anti-Dump vote here in this state? Joe Biden won 98.4 percent of the votes cast in the Magnolia State.

What also transpired on Capitol Hill was the former special counsel, Robert Hur, who cleared the president of mishandling classified documents, but who created a firestorm of controversy when he gratuitously took potshots at Biden’s memory in which he called him a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” being grilled by members of the House. Today Hur appeared before Congress to explain his investigation into the president’s handling of classified documents. The exchanges between repugnicans and Democrats and with Hur appear online in a CNN article by Jeremy Herb and Marshall Cohen entitled “Takeaways from Robert Hur’s testimony on Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.”

During the clown show put on for the benefit of the American people, Republicans attacked Biden as they pressed Hur on his decision not to prosecute the president, while Democrats criticized Hur for his comments on Biden’s memory – while also focusing much of their attention on former president Donald Chump and the differences in the former president’s classified documents case, which led to an indictment last year.

Here are some takeaways from today’s hearing:

Hur won’t ‘exonerate’ Biden – but won’t call him ‘senile’ either

Despite being pressed by loathsome repugnicans at the hearing, Hur wouldn’t commit himself to calling Biden “senile,” which is not even in his purview even. But repugnicans wanted to hear Hur say that about Biden, so that their doddering old, Alzheimer’s choice of a candidate would look better. The asshole who pressed Hur to make a diagnostic conclusion on Biden’s cognitive faculties was Republican Rep. Scott Fitzgerald of Wisconsin, who asked Hur, “Mr. Hur, based on your report, did you find that the president was senile?” after reviewing what Webster’s Dictionary defines as senile. Hur emphatically disagreed, telling Fitzgerald, “I did not. That conclusion does not appear in my report.”

A Washington state Democrat, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, tussled with Hur over his conclusions, claiming Hur “exonerated” Biden. Here too Hur clashed with the Democratic Congresswoman, when he said that “exonerate” was not cited in his report either. He added, “I did not exonerate him. That word does not appear in the report.”

Democrats’ retorts are all about Trump

Even though Hur didn’t play a role in Drumpf’s handling of top-secret information, Democrats repeatedly asked Hur about the Trump classified documents indictment.

The loathsome repugnicans tried to paint the justice system as being favorable to the sitting president, even though their Golden Idol clearly violated several laws in his own classified documents indictment. These MAGA nuts want the American people to believe there is a two-tiered system of justice.

It was Rep. Madeleine Dean, a Pennsylvania Democrat, who asked Hur to read a section of his report where he compared both cases and found presumptive violations of law in Drumpf’s case. Hur definitely didn’t want to read that part of the report to Congress since I saw this portion of the exchange between Dean and Hur on MSNBC. This was so because it was a slur on Drumpf. And Hur is a political hack for repugnicans, in my opinion.

A California Democrat, Rep. Ted Lieu, pointedly asked Hur if “President Biden directed his lawyer to lie to the FBI?” [as Trump did] Here Hur had to say, “We identified no such evidence.”

Lieu further asked, “Did you find that President Biden directed his personal assistant to move boxes of documents to hide them from the FBI?” [as Trump did] Here Hur said, “No,” in response.

The California Democrat went further in his questioning when he asked Hur whether Biden had been investigated for allegations related to Drumpf’s other three indictments in connection with attempts to overturn the 2020 election and the reimbursement of hush-money payments.

2024 campaign overtones on both sides of the Hur hearing

Today’s oversight hearing provided lawmakers on both aisles to try to score political points against both Biden and Drumpf.

“Throughout the hearing, Democrats and Republicans frequently peppered Hur with questions about either Trump or Biden not intended to elicit a response but to criticize the other party’s presumptive nominee, from asking whether Biden was senile to asking whether Biden, like Trump, had been charged with trying to overturn the 2020 election or making hush money payments.”

Rep. Jerry Adler, of New York, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, played a video in which Dump was shown misremembering key facts, including a clip from last year in which he incorrectly said Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, was the prime minister of Turkey. Quick, who is it?

After the video wrapped, Nadler said, “That is a man who is incapable of avoiding criminal lability. A man who is wholly unfit for office and a man who, at the very least, ought to think twice before accusing others of cognitive decline.”

Actually, what is damning about this special prosecutor and his terrible report on the Biden’s lack of memory is that he lied about the president’s memory altogether. Upon questioning from Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, Hur was asked to comment on one of the pages within his report in which he termed the president’s memory as “photographic,” not faulty. Then Swalwell pressed Hur in admitting that he would accept a position of authority if the Orange Turd were ever reinstated in the White House. Hur denied he was doing this on behalf of the January 6th insurrectionist.

Overall, I think the Democrats did a better job of portraying Drumpf as a potential criminal rather than letting Hur mischaracterize the image of the sitting president as a doddering old fool. The repugnicans failed once again in their mission to sully the image of President Joe Biden.

Today we had our contractor/handyman “Jim” return to finish the jobs he began yesterday in the apartment. I had to rush with showering today since he called a little after 9 to say he was coming. He finished setting up the new bookcase in the living room. He also shaved our bedroom door so that it could properly close now. He also did some work in the bathroom. We both went out after 10 for breakfast.

In the afternoon, we took down the kitchen rack to place it in our storage unit so as to cut down on the clutter there. We took everything out and then put the items back on the rack. This didn’t take too long.

The weather today was actually nice: we had temperatures in the 60s today, I believe. It was ideal weather to take a nice, brisk walk, which I didn’t do because we stayed around to wait for Jim to finish and did some spring cleaning downstairs.

Stay safe and be well.
