Today is Saturday, March 16, 2024. A demented candidate for president this year just predicted at a campaign rally in Vandalia, Ohio, that that if he is not reelected . . . “it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.” How can we as a nation even countenance this from a former president who fomented an insurrection – despite what the corrupt “Extreme” Court ruled – on January 6 after the carnage of that day was wrought by red hats in support of the ex-president’s grandiose scheme to steal the election from Joe Biden. The campaign team of President Joe Biden didn’t miss a beat as it pounced on Herr Drumpf’s despicable comment about violence arising from his loss to Biden when it does indeed happen. In a CNN news blurb online written by Kit Maher entitled “Biden campaign says Trump ‘wants another January 6’ after former president suggests ‘bloodbath’ if he loses.”
Thus after Drumpf’s incendiary comments in Ohio were disseminated to the nation, President Biden’s campaign spokesperson James Singer said in a statement today that former president Donald Duck “wants another January 6” after he said so during a campaign speech before a crowd in Ohio.
Singer predicted that the “American people are going to give him another electoral defeat this November because they continue to reject his extremism, his affection for violence, and his thirst for vengeance.” The disgraced ex-president’s comment came as he promised a “100% tariff” on cars made outside the United States.
Dump appeared at the rally just outside of Dayton with Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, a loathsome Trump lackey, whom the former insurrectionist has endorsed in the GOP primary to take on Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. The adjudicated sexual predator called Moreno to the stage toward the end of the remarks, and the Senate hopeful praised the former president as “a good man.” Is this man for real? We should all ask this question, even though we are not in Ohio. All we need to know is that Moreno – like the entire Republican Party – has done a flipflop on Dump and his harmful effect on the “Reputin” party. He had previously been critical of Drumpf but has now deleted tweets in which he called Drumpf a “fake republican” who stokes “hatred and fear” and said there was “no scenario” in which he would support him. So what happened with this unfit candidate for the Senate during that time he was actually rational when he criticized the former president to suddenly become a Drumpf zombie at the current moment?
So I was missing from this forum yesterday because I had decided to see a Broadway play at the last minute – without Elliot who was content staying home. I took the F train to 47-50th Street to get on line at the TKTS booth on Times Square. It was not exactly 3 o’clock when I arrived at the location, so I entered a very long line and waited almost an hour to be able to make my selection. The weather was beautiful yesterday, so it was quite okay to remain in line for so long. As I was standing, I wondered how many people were native New Yorkers like myself and how many were tourists. I would tend to believe that the majority of people waiting were visitors from other geographic areas.
The play I eventually decided to see was Make Me Gorgeous! playing at Playhouse 46 at St. Luke’s, on West 46th Street. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a production there before last night. I heard about this play just yesterday morning and it piqued my interest. And the price was indeed right: only $46. The theater was small and not your average Broadway theater like the Helen Hayes.
The 90-minute play retold the remarkable story of an early LGBTQ+ pioneer that no one has ever heard of before and his name was Kenneth Marlowe. He was portrayed in an incandescent performance by Darius Rose, who is better known as his drag alter ego, Jackie Cox, who was one of the Top 4 contestants from Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. As essayed by Rose, Marlowe is seen in his many incarnations during the past century as a madam of a notorious gay prostitution ring in Hollywood; a private hairdresser to the stars including Gypsey Rose Lee, the late comedian Phyllis Diller, and even the great Lucille Ball; a female impersonator; an author of several trailblazing books on homosexuality; a private in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was raped by 14 men; a Christian missionary; and for the final decade of his incredible lived life, transitioning to a woman known as Kate Marlowe. I had a headache just trying to grasp how many lives this one man had. As for some biographical data on Marlowe, we learn he was born in Iowa in 1926 and knew at a very early age that he was gay. He circumnavigated the Midwest mostly, traveling to Calumet City, Illinois, New Orleans, and eventually, Northern California, settling in the 1970s in San Francisco. The one-room setting is Kenneth’s apartment in San Francisco, in 1975.
During the length of the play, Rose sings, flounces, strips to his upper torso, and delivers a remarkable performance as Marlowe. He was quite charming as his drag alter ego in which he belts out a few songs. He sustains an easy rapport with the audience as well. So if you’re interested in knowing more about this man’s remarkable life, go see this play; it will only be performed until March 24.
Have a good Sunday. Oh, and tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, so enjoy a pint on me.
Stay safe and be well.

Here is the poster from the play I saw yesterday.
