Today is Saturday, June 1, 2024. It’s getting late here since Elliot and I watched a thriller on Netflix called Faithfully Yours which I know nothing about. It was a Dutch film from 2022 and it made the streaming service’s top film list, so we decided to watch it. I was more nodding off than actively viewing it. The story involved two female friends, where one, Bodil, was a family judge and her friend, Isabel, was married to a writer. Both practice having open marriages in that both have affairs. The plot concerns one particular weekend in which the two friends hie to a beach house owned by the judge’s aunt where Bodil has a torrid tryst with a motivational speaker on lying, no less, by the name of Michael. When Bodil comes back after taking a swim in the ocean, she comes across blood stains in the front of the house that are deemed to come from her friend, Isabel. Soon Bodil is ensnared in a web of suspicion, as her friend’s body is never found. There are many twists and turns in this rather prosaic psychological thriller. In all, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Today Elliot and I had a thoroughly lovely day with Elliot’s first girlfriend, “Deborah.” She invited us out to Brooklyn Heights where she lives, and so, we decided to take the subway all the way out there instead of driving there, which was a wise move since parts of the BQE were closed, Deborah informed us. We took the R train to Court Street and walked to Clark Street where Clark’s Restaurant was located. This is several minutes away from Deborah’s apartment building. The trip took close to an hour and it was fine: I was able to finish reading my book, The Film Club, by David Gilmour.
After having brunch with Deborah, we walked down leafy, tree-lined streets of Brooklyn Heights to Smith Street, where we browsed an indie bookstore by the name of Books Are Magic. Actually, Deborah and Elliot stayed outside, while I browsed the store by myself. I was very impressed with the titles the store had.
We then had ice cream at Haagan-Dazs located next door. After this, we took a walk on the Brooklyn Promenade and then eventually walked back to the subway.
Have a good Sunday.
Stay safe and be well.
