Today is Monday, June 3, 2024. No matter how he tries to portray his most recent conviction on 34 felony counts last Thursday, former president Donald Duck got more bad news with recent polling that shows his conviction isn’t so good for him. In an online article for Daily Kos by the Kos team entitled “It’s math: Trump’s conviction is not a good thing for him,” the bad news surrounding his recent conviction is reported on.
For Dump to win the White House again in 2024, the article points out, he “needs a combination of a strong third party vote, depressed Democratic turnout, and outsized performances in the seven battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.” To pull this off, he literally has no margin of error, and any bleed in his support is near catastrophic. And now that he has a felony conviction, how could this ever help him? Despite his lies about the system being rigged against him and his Reputin allies casting doubt on the judicial system. I dare say that this repugnant strategy will backfire on Trump and his cult party.
A new poll from Saturday’s Morning Consult found that 54 percent of registered voters approve of the jury’s decision to convict Drumpf on 34 felony charges surrounding his 2016 election interference scheme with adult actress Stormy Daniels. Only 34 percent “strongly” or “somewhat” disapprove. According to this poll, the Reputins losing their minds over the conviction and are endorsing violence as a necessary response to the legal system’s “persecution” of their Dear Leader constitute only a third of voters, a distinct minority.
It’s likely no accident that 54 percent is roughly the number of people who didn’t vote for Dump in 2016 or 2020. Again, he hasn’t built additional support since then. And given COVID deaths – many that he actually caused – and suburban America’s leftward drift, he’s likely below that ceiling. It’s simply math in this instance and that’s why Dump spoke to a hostile audience at the Libertarian convention a couple of weeks ago – he’s desperate to find new supporters.
Another weekend poll, this one by Reuters/Ipsos, had equally damaging news for Drumpf: 10 percent of registered Reputin voters are less likely to vote for Drumpf. Again, it’s math – losing a tenth of Republicans would translate to three to four points nationally, eliminating any realistic chance for victory.
The poll has even more devastating news for the convicted felon of a presidential nominee: 25 percent of independents are less likely to vote for him, exacerbating his challenges.
And that’s not all! Another Ipsos poll, this one for ABC News, found that 51 percent that Dump intentionally broke the law, 12 percent think he broke the law unintentionally, and only 19 percent believe he did nothing wrong.
Another result of the poll is that a full 16 percent of Reputins agree with the verdict and want someone who isn’t a convicted felon as their nominee. Again, Drumpf desperately needs to grow his support. This case is eroding it.
One other way we know that the felony conviction is really hurting Drumpf is how he hasn’t shut up talking about how rigged it is, demanding his entire sycophantic party to endorse a convicted felon as their nominee, despite the image of the Reputin Party as being the supposed “law and order” party. If it didn’t hurt him, Fox “News” and the rest of the conservative multiverse wouldn’t be in overdrive trying to paint the conviction as a politically motivated hit job by hostile nefarious forces. The majority of Americans will not buy this bullshit anymore from a maximally corrupt political party. If it didn’t hurt him, Drumpf would be bragging about the conviction, rather than attacking it.
The article concludes the way it started: by stating that Drumpf has a major math problem with his voters. “How does a conviction help build his support in an election that will be decided by fractions of a percent? It doesn’t.”
Now it’s up to us Democrats to pound this reality home: by stating over and over “convicted felon Donald Trump” in any kind of statement or communication to the public that has a memory loss as wide as a dementia patient sometimes so that this reality registers with American voters. Here we can make this unprecedented verdict a big difference – maybe the difference between Joe Biden being reelected and Donald Duck destroying our democracy. No federal Democratic officeholder should, in the foreseeable future, say the name “Donald Trump” without putting the words “convicted felon” before it. This repetition works, as people need to hear things over and over for it to lodge in their long-term memory.
Think of how many times the other side chanted “Crooked Hillary” over and over in 2016. Even though these idiots sounded like mentally dull robots, it did do the job of sinking in, for millions of swing voters. As many as 40 percent of voters in 2016 polls said they thought she was corrupt. And when former FBI director James Comey reopened that email investigation in late October, many of those voters thought: Aha. Crooked Hillary. Just what the Republicans have been saying.
This then is the strategy Democrats must take before November 5: hammer away at nailing Drumpf as a convicted felon and not let the country forget it, which can only cause Drumpf to say nuttier and nuttier things about it, which can swing those votes in Arizona and all the rest of the battleground states.
Today retired infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci was grilled by a partisan House hearing of far-right Republicans who have long blamed the 83-year-old Fauci for the shutdowns, face mask mandates, and vaccine policies during the height of the pandemic, even though all of these occurred under a Republican president Donald Duck who suggested injecting bleach as a cure to the virus. One of his most vocal critics, blonde bimbo Marjorie Taylor Greene, had a face-off with out gay Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) who called out vacuous Greene for refusing to call him a “doctor” during the contentious hearing. She even had the temerity to demand that Fauci be prosecuted for “crimes against humanity” without a shred of evidence. Why is this woman still in Congress? She’s a threat to intelligence everywhere!
Garcia excoriated Greene’s refusal to call Fauci by his real title in a tweet, in which he called her a “national embarrassment.” He added, “Totally insane that Marjorie Taylor Greene would not refer to Dr. Fauci as a doctor. He’s one of the most brilliant medical minds in the country.” The public should be outraged that the House pulled Fauci out of retirement to harangue him over nonsense. During the hearing, Fauci had to sadly report that he’s received death threats as a result of far-right lies spewed about him. This is the kind of reality that Fauci and his family now live under, thanks to extremists on the far right.
Stay safe and be well.
