Today is Tuesday, June 11, 2024. I did mention yesterday that I might not post my blog today because Elliot and I were attending our friend “Patricia’s” 80th birthday party at Parkside Restaurant, in Corona, Queens. We did attend her party and we returned around 9 p.m. I must say that we had a very enjoyable time at this dinner party where there was no dancing, just good food and sparkling conversation. I believe there were at least 20 attendees at Patricia’s party.
One of the most remarkable chats that I had was with a tall, well-put-together, white-haired gentleman who admitted that he knew the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, in the late 60s and early 70s. This admission came about when I confessed I missed seeing some of the greats in concert like Elvis, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, and so on. That’s when “Jody” confessed he knew Presley pretty well when he himself was quite young.
We were all seated upstairs at a very long table where we faced three women and Jody to the right. Patricia sat opposite us in a very stylish lavender outfit. At the end of the dinner, she got up to thank everyone for coming and sharing this moment with her. Most of the attendees were members of her West Side Tennis Club. There she used to play tennis with the women and men at her party.
Today in the news Hunter Biden’s conviction on felony charges involving the purchase of a gun and lying to authorities about his drug usage shredded the other corrupt side’s stupid assertion that the justice system is rigged against them. This argument is explained in an online AlterNet article by Carl Gibson entitled “Experts: Hunter Biden conviction ‘makes it much harder’ for Trump to make ‘rigged’ claims.”
Now Hunter Biden became the first family member of a sitting U.S. president to be convicted on criminal charges. Because of this unprecedented situation, various legal experts, journalists, and commentators all agreed that President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice convicting his own son on felony charges may be a loss for Hunter, but a win for the rule of law.
Biden, 54, was found guilty on three counts relating to his 2018 purchase of a handgun in Delaware while he was struggling with his crack cocaine addiction. On the form supplied by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the president’s son lied on the portion of the form asking potential gun buyers if they are addicted to illegal drugs. Two of Biden’s convictions were for lying on federal forms, and the third was for possession of the gun itself. His girlfriend disposed of the revolver after just 11 days, saying she was worried about him potentially harming himself because of his addiction. President Biden had previously vowed to not pardon his son if the jury convicted him. Contrast this if the shoe were on the other foot and Dump were president – God forbid! – and one of his worthless sons were tried and convicted of some criminal charge, everyone would expect a presidential pardon in a heartbeat!
In a post to the social media platform X, following the conviction, Financial Times associate editor Edward Luce argued that Hunter Biden’s convictions are “politically useful” for Democrats heading into the November election, given the contrast with how the former insurrectionist has responded to his own 34 felony convictions with fucking whining and spewing falsehoods about the system being rigged.
Luce tweeted, “[Hunter Biden’s verdict] Makes it much harder for Trump to argue the system is rigged against him.”
Another critic of Dump’s wild accusations of a rigged system, Adam Carlson, who is a former pollster with Global Strategy Group, noted that “no one” in the Democratic Party has called Hunter Biden’s trial a “WITCH HUNT” or a “RIGGED TRIAL” as the Orange Anti-Christ” did with his own proceedings and also observed the lack of Democrats sympathizing with Hunter Biden and calling him a “political prisoner.”
I like this line of Carlson’s: “Because Democrats, for all of our faults, are the party of grownups.”
Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) echoed that sentiment, tweeting that “unlike [Marjorie Taylor Greene] and MAGA, no Democrat will call for Civil War.” Vanity Fair special correspondent Molly Jong-Fast tweeted that “the law is the law for everyone.”
The final word on this matter comes from former FBI general counsel Andrew Weissmann, who is a former assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who said on MSNBC that Hunter Biden’s guilty verdict symbolizes President Biden’s commitment to the system.
“I’m more interested in what it tells us about the rule of law,” Weissmann said. “You have the president making it clear that he will not pardon him . . . The big picture here is . . . that you have a president who is the living embodiment of the rule of law.”
The jury in Hunter Biden’s trial deliberated only three hours before returning a guilty verdict.
Even this conviction has not satisfied the extreme right, as they now claim this case is just a distraction from not trying Hunter Biden on his supposedly illegal activities in Ukraine. Remember that nonsense? This got the Orange Turd impeached the first time. At that time, Trump attorney and lackey Rudy “Ghoul”iani raked Ukraine ahead of the 2020 election for evidence that then-Vice-President Biden pressured Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor in 2016 over an alleged investigation into a natural gas company, Burisma, whose board Hunter Biden sat on. Ghouliani didn’t dig up much evidence that he could present publicly, but the scheme led to to an impeachment of Drumpf after he allegedly threatened to withhold military aid to Ukraine over a refusal by the country’s president to announce an investigation of Biden. This is sheer nonsense coming from MAGA and nothing else! Don’t buy this from that side! It’s incumbent on us to reject this insanity from those espousing MAGA ideas, especially the Orange Turd and his many enablers. We’re better than this!
Have a good Wednesday.
Stay safe and be well.

Let’s hope Democrats don’t go soft on Dump’s 34 felony convictions, as he roars about getting back at his political enemies. We must be as ferocious as the Republican Party is toward the other side. Democracy is at stake in the next election!
