Today is Wednesday, July 10, 2024. I think I’ll start with what happened today: This evening Elliot and I were involved in a minor car collision in the parking lot of Best Buy, in the Green Acres Mall, in Valley Stream. Thank God no one was hurt. That is the main thing; this time we were not at fault. We were heading toward a spot near Best Buy, where I decided to purchase another phone charger for my smartphone, since I left a charger for my phone back in Easton last weekend, when all of a sudden, a young woman hit us on the driver’s side. I don’t know where her rental car was damaged since I was in a state of shock, possibly. Elliot got out right away and headed toward the two people who were in the car with the driver. All we did was exchange telephone numbers and I took a picture of the lady’s driver’s license. But to repeat, no one was injured and that’s the most essential thing. Actually, the driver of the car that struck us apologized since she went into us, not the other way around. However, would an apology mean anything now that we have to report the incident to our insurer?
After the accident, I still had the wherewithal to enter Best Buy to purchase the new charger. I believed if we just headed home after the accident, it really would have meant we made the trip to the mall for naught. So I entered the store, while Elliot waited by our damaged car. Thank God our Nissan Altima was still drivable, so maybe the extent of the damage isn’t that bad. The passenger door is quite dented, though, and the mounting by the rear wheel is damaged. However, we got home with no problem.
When we returned home, Elliot called the insurer and spoke to an agent and she took down all of the necessary information. Now we just wait. He was informed that an insurance adjuster will be calling us tomorrow sometime. I would suspect that he or she will want to inspect the damage.
The last time this happened was in February 2020 when I got into an accident after visiting my comic book store and the car sustained over $5,000 in damages in that collision. So when this occurred today, I had visions of that earlier accident, which drew police officers to the scene, and my filling out an accident report. Of course, the car was more seriously impaired in this collision with another driver in Forest Hills Garden. The driver of the car that collided with me eventually sued me for damages, but I’ve never heard how that case was resolved. I would expect that if I haven’t heard anything by now, it’s been settled. But who knows? These cases can take years before they are ever settled. I don’t even want to think it’s still open after so many years.
We now have this to deal with. Now we can just wait and see.
I can say all this transpired because of a phone charger. If we hadn’t driven to the mall, we would have driven home right after having dinner at Lucky Boy Restaurant, on Rockaway Turnpike. But it’s not worth thinking “what if” in this case. It happened, and that’s that! We just have to deal with it. Again, we must be so very grateful that no one from either car was injured.
More of this to come!
Stay safe and be well.
