Today is Thursday, July 11, 2024. The high-stakes press conference with the president aired on television today about an hour late (it was called for 6:30, but didn’t start until 7:20 or so) and Biden dominated the conference for almost an hour, fielding questions from various journalists in the room. I believe he performed quite well, even though he did make some gaffes, especially the one in which he conflated the name of Kamala Harris with that of Donald Dump. He was asked about his vice president’s qualifications for being president, and he substituted her name with that of Trump’s. Of course, the baby orange candidate has already seized on that gaffe in order to exploit it as political capital, even though this incoherent son of a bitch has made more gaffes on the campaign trail than any other candidate ever nominated for the White House.
The president began the press conference by detailing the NATO summit that he had just attended with NATO leaders and what happened during the conference. He sounded very strong during this description of what occurred during the conference. At this confab, Biden accidentally called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky “President Putin” while introducing him during a NATO event. He laughed off this flub during the press conference.
With the Kamala Harris mistake, Biden failed to correct himself. However, he moved on, and he spent the rest of the news conference lobbing in-depth answers about questions including Russia, Israel, and the economy, offering lengthy answers on dealing with China and U.S. policy around Ukraine’s fight. Would the Orange Turd be able to provide the same deep answers as the sitting president here? I doubt he’d even be able to sputter coherent answers if he tried with all his might.
An up-to-the-moment CNN update on my smartphone by MJ Lee is called “Biden White House and campaign point to news conference as a success.” If you’ve watched the press conference yourself, you can be the judge of whether Biden performed well or not.
One senior White House official told CNN that Biden displayed “solid command of both domestic topics and foreign affairs.” A Biden campaign official, who said the president had skillfully discussed issues of complicated foreign policy implications, lamented that they wished “this version of him” had shown up to the CNN debate two weeks ago.
CNN previously reported that a growing number of officials involved in the president’s reelection efforts are beginning to privately acknowledge that they do not believe Biden has a path to victory and wish for the president to abandon his reelection bid.
This can only be determined by Biden himself. All during the press conference, Biden brushed aside concerns about his candidacy by telling reporters he’s the most qualified person to run for president. He asserted, “I think I’m the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I will beat him again.”
So I say, “let’s take a deep breath and wait and see.” Let’s get Biden out more speaking in battleground states, meeting the public like he did in 2020, and he’ll win again in 2024.
Former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton just said exactly the opposite on CNN when he called many of Biden’s answers as “incoherent” and said Dump would be terrified if Biden dropped out of the race to pave the way for a much younger candidate. What can a party do, given that the Republican candidate for president is not just another of a lesser evil, he’s just evil and a fascist, and must be defeated at all costs.
Stay safe and be well.
