Coronavirus Diary

Today is Thursday, September 12, 2024. The repercussions from Monday’s debate are still being felt among Dump’s own party, the Republican Party, who now have just a few representatives coming out and accurately calling Drumpf’s performance during his showdown with Vice President Kamala Harris as a “missed opportunity” and a “train wreck.” These surprisingly honest assessments of Dump’s abominable performance on September 10 being uttered by Republicans and not Democrats are offered in a RawStory online article by Tom Boggioni entitled ‘Damaged’ Trump is acting like a ‘cornered sewer rat’ and the GOP can’t dump him: analyst.”

Now on the heels of that disastrous debate performance, former Trump White House correspondent Brian Karem suggested the ex-president is in for the fight of his life – and that is not good news for the GOP.

Noting Vice President Kamala Harris’s baiting prompted Drumpf to rage about immigrants eating America’s pets in Ohio, Karem said that now-viral soundbite makes Drumpf an even more “damaged” candidate.

As Karem wrote in his column for Salon, Republicans now find themselves in the same position Democrats did after President Joe Biden’s devastating debate with the Orange Menace where critics said he seemed old and confused. Now who is looking old and confused?

The difference now, Karem indicated, is that Democrats had the opportunity to change direction before their convention by lining up behind Harris.

“Trump is seen as old, out of touch, and delusional. When Harris mentioned that Trump was still having ‘a hard time processing’ the fact that he lost the last election, to many people she was speaking directly to a loss of mental capacity,” Karem wrote before saying of Drumpf, that he is “a crushed lunatic. A cornered sewer rat. She reminded everyone that 200 former Republicans, including some of the highest members of the former Trump administration, had endorsed her. He could only lamely say they were all bad people.”

According to this former Trump White House correspondent, Trump’s cornered rat routine after the fallout from the debate makes him – and his followers – dangerous and puts Republicans in a bad place.

Writing about the position Republicans now find themselves in, Karem writes, “The Republicans themselves understand the desperation. Though they are at the same place the Democrats were in June, they are well past their national convention and cannot switch candidates as easily as the Democrats did after Biden’s lackluster performance in the June debate.”

Unfortunately, Republicans “are stuck with Donald Trump. Desperation is mounting as the GOP sees its chances to dominate either the Senate or the House dwindling,” as Karem writes.

Karem concludes his column by stating that Dump and his minions are more dangerous by the day. He warns, “Be wary of that sewer rat.”

Another unlikely Republican critic of the former president’s “catastrophic” performance during Monday’s historic debate is Karl Rove, the GOP political consultant and deputy chief of staff in the George W. Bush administration. He has pulled no punches in an op-ed in conservative newspaper The Wall Street Journal saying that Donald Dump’s debate against Kamala Harris was a “train wreck” for him.

Calling Trump’s debate performance “catastrophic” (no pun intended), he goes as far as to say that he was “crushed by a woman he previously dismissed as ‘dumb as a rock.'”

Rove further continues to write that the ex-insurrectionist’s performance was “far worse than anything Team Trump could have imagined” and that Dump was “visibly rattled” as Harris “launched rocket after rocket at him.”

Rove notes that, according to an analysis by The New York Times, Harris spent 46 percent of her time on the attack, while Dump’s attacks only amounted to 29 percent of his time.

“Debates aren’t won on defense,” Rove said. Going even deeper, Rove writes that Trump was bested by his emotions when he must have known Harris would try and get him to lose his cool. And, boy, did this toddler lose his cool!

“He took the bait almost every time she put it on the hook, offering a pained smile as she did,” Rove said. “Rather than dismissing her attacks and launching his strongest counterarguments against her, Mr. Trump got furious.”

According to this revered political consultant, Dump failed to deliver the short, deft replies and counterpunches that would have been effective, and the former president failed at his most important task of tying Harris to President Joe Biden’s failed policies.

Offering his opinion of Drumpf’s demeanor, Rove writes, “It matters how debating candidates carry themselves. There, it was no contest. Ms. Harris came across as calm, confident, strong, and focused on the future. Mr. Trump came across as hot, angry, and fixated on the past, especially his own.” He still maintained he won the election during the debate, as you might recall.

In conclusion, Rove writes that while the debate will have an effect on the election, it is probably not as much as the Harris campaign hopes for, nor the Dump team fears.

His last quote is quite memorable: “But there’s no putting lipstick on this pig. Mr. Trump was crushed by a woman he previously dismissed as ‘dumb as a rock.’ Which raises the question: What does that make him?”

And in a rare move, widely interpreted as a realization that the debate had not gone well, Dump appeared in the spin room afterward, usually the preserve of campaign officials and surrogates, and spoke with the media. And, absurdly, Drumpf claimed it was his “best debate ever.” You either have to laugh or feel pity for this deluded mental midget.

Another reason – counting to several thousand right now – not to allow this lunatic back into the White House is the new, disturbing news about the crazy company Drumpf is now keeping: his close association with a truly loopy right-wing lunatic named Laura Loomer, who has actually been condemned by far-right colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene. Duh! Greene is actually calling out a fellow right-wing colleague for being too extreme? Boy, is that something quite extraordinary!

Another RawStory online article by Brad Reed gives the lowdown on this crazy figure in “‘She’s a lunatic!’: GOP insiders call for ‘wake up moment’ as Trump embraces MAGA ‘kook.'”

Loomer has recently become a member of former liar in chief’s Donald Dump’s inner circle. Now a pair of CNN panelists sounded the alarm about the fact that Donnie has embraced someone like Loomer, who is notorious for pushing conspiracy theories and racism in her social media posts that are too much for even a one-time QAnon believer like Greene to stomach. (One of Loomer’s extreme theories is calling 9/11 an “inside job.”) Very dangerous!

When asked by host John Berman of CNN what he thought of Loomer, former George W. Bush spokesperson Pete Seat did not mince any words to say “She’s a lunatic.” He added, “I don’t think anyone should pay any attention to anything she says, and it is troubling that the Republican nominee . . . holds her in such high regard. And the reason is because the feeds his worst impulses. That’s what he wants: He feeds off that type of rhetoric and those types of conspiracy theories.”

Former GOP strategist Ana Navarro found it remarkable that Dump is even letting Loomer fly on his campaign plane with him. She said, “His wife isn’t on the plane [who would have thought?], but this kook is on the plane? And I think it should be incredibly concerning that, potentially, the next president of the United States is surrounded by racist conspiracy theorists. Listen: When Marjorie Taylor Greene is all of a sudden the voice of reason . . . call it a wakeup moment.”

In response to the crazier reference to Haitian residents living in Springfield, Ohio, by the former president, eating residents’ pets – their cats and dogs – an avalanche of social media memes were created to show the lunacy of the message delivered by the former president on stage in Philadelphia on Monday. I’ve seen several of them and many are quite funny. Unfortunately, I’ve actually heard stories now where some Haitian residents are fearful for their lives after Dump’s incendiary comment condemned them for no sane reason. This isn’t good because this lunatic’s remarks are heard by millions of his deluded, ignorant supporters who believe anything he might say. And there were more than 67 million viewers to Monday’s debate, where there must have been some MAGAts among them listening. And if they live in Ohio, who knows what would inspire them to do something bad to those people who were targeted by Dump. Without stressing this any further, Dump is indeed dangerous and must be renounced for good. On November 5, I mean.

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. Don’t walk under any ladders or cross any black cats if you can help it.

Stay safe and be well.
