Today is Monday, November 25, 2024. For those of you who are paying attention, today the man known as the Orange Turd, in my opinion, has evaded justice once more, courtesy of special counsel Jack Smith who filed a motion to dismiss the criminal case against the incoming president. There is no celebration of this victory by most decent people – it will be celebrated only in the halls of Mar-a-Lago where the president-elect must be gloating in his Depends. This is an infuriating blow to the principle that no one is above the law, but now it’s definitely been established that if your name is Donald Trump, you can escape accountability – at least until 2029 if you’re still alive and don’t declare yourself president for another four years by trashing the Constitution. He’s going to do this on January 20, 2025, anyway, mark my words, when he takes the oath of office and declares his fealty to the Constitution. This sad development in our nation’s history appears online in an article for Who What Why by Klaus Marre entitled “Trump Gets Away with Coup, MAGA Celebrates Dark Day for Rule of Law.”

A convicted felon, Dump benefits from a longstanding Department of Justice (DOJ) policy that a president cannot be indicted or criminally prosecuted while in office.

In his motion, Smith stressed that the decision to let the former insurrectionist off the hook has nothing to do with the “the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Government stands fully behind.”

In other words, Trump avoided justice, and his strategy of delaying the various cases paid off in the long run – but America loses as a whole.

“For those who value the rule of law, this is a sad day.” An unbelievably sad day, which we cannot easily recover from, in my opinion.

But for those – that vocal minority known as MAGA that seems to be running the country now after President Joe Biden leaves office in January – it was a most joyous occasion.

And in typical GOP fashion, those applauding the decision didn’t bother with the truth, i.e., that Smith was motivated by a DOJ policy that prohibited this case from going forward. Many a MAGA loyalist will now contend that this motion was an admission that Dump’s prosecution was based on politics and not the voluminous evidence showing that he tried to overturn the 2020 election and incited an insurrection.

One of those snarky pep boys of Dump, failed presidential aspirant Vivek Ramaswamy, stated, “The fact they’re now dropping charges and avoiding sentencing simply confirms that it was really just politics all along. Pretty disgusting.” No, Mr. Ramaswamy, your version of the truth is here disgusting, and you know it, since you have a postgraduate degree, I presume!

Speaking of grossly distorting the truth, Dump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, claimed Smith’s decision was “another legal victory” for the former commander in grief (it was not!), that the indictment was “unconstitutional” to begin with (it was not!), and that this is “a major victory for the rule of law” (it was definitely not!).

To give the odious Dump another victory, Smith also dropped an appeal of the ruling from pro-Dump judge Aileen Cannon (who is probably aspiring for a Supreme Court judgeship from this monster) that dismissed another criminal case involving the former president – this one regarding the classified documents that he kept at his Mar-a-Lago residence. Thus Smith will also be forced to abandon this case like the other one which most assuredly had enough evidence to convict the former president once more.

As predicted, all of the attempts to have Dump face legal accountability for the crimes he committed throughout these years have been abandoned because of the wide swath of the population who didn’t care that this would be coming if their candidate were elected president again. It didn’t bother them in the least that someone in that position could be given a “get out of jail” card by just winning the presidency. This is now the new America as of November 5 – one in which anyone without any conscience or understanding of right versus wrong could be elevated to the highest position in the land. Another reason to mourn America and what it has become!
