Today is Thursday, March 6, 2025. The latest action by Democrats in the wake of Rep. Al Green’s disruption of the rogue president’s address to the joint session of Congress on Tuesday should enrage everyone: it seems that 10 Democrats joined with House repugnicans today to censure Green for his protest during Dump’s speech to Congress. This is not what a unified party looks like as it wages war now against Dump and the entire traitorous repugnican party. This saddens me to no end. The thing that Democrats should have done to show their solidarity with Green’s appropriate action during the madman’s speech was to do absolutely nothing! But they didn’t and this is not good. This does not bode well for the Democratic Party right now as the American people continue to show their anger and frustration with an illiberal agenda being pushed by a dawning despot. The move by Democrats is reported in an online CNN article entitled “10 Democrats join with Republicans to censure Rep. Al Green for Trump speech protest” by Veronica Stracqualursi, Sarah Ferris, and Annie Grayer. I do hope there is anger directed toward the entire Democratic Party for this unwise move.
This vote highlights the division within the party over how some members protested the president’s remarks. What I feel they should have done is to present a unified front, much like their evil opponents, the repugnicans who never veer off-course from taking any stand, no matter how morally repulsive it is. This is not what we need right now when this country is now locked in a mortal war against itself. The writers of the article write, “Democrats are searching to find a compelling, unified message to counter Trump and the new administration – a struggle playing out not only on Capitol Hill but across the country.”
As reported yesterday, divergent tactics were on full display on Tuesday during the Orange Ogre’s address, with some Democrats holding signs, walking out or boycotting it altogether. Others took a more muted approach, following the guidance of House Democratic leadership, specifically House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who had urged members not to mount high-profile protests and to show restraint during the long-winded address, cautioning that the GOP could seize on such actions. Here Jeffries gets it all wrong: this precise situation calls for no restraint from the Democratic Party; they must scream, scream, and scream, not show restraint, in my humble opinion.
I will now release the 10 Democrats who voted unwisely with their repugnican colleagues. Maybe people will mount a letter-writing campaign of expressing their dissatisfaction with their action here. Here they are: Ami Bera of California; Ed Case of Hawaii; Jim Costa of California; Laura Gillen of New York; Jim Himes of Connecticut; Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania; Marcy Kaptur of Ohio; Jared Moskowitz of Florida; Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington; and Tom Suozzi of New York.
One of the possible reasons to explain the 10 Democrats’ decision to go along with the repugnicans here was that many represent competitive seats, including three of the Democrats – Kaptur, Suozzi, and Gluesenkamp Perez – who represent districts that Dump won in November. But the number of Democrats supporting the measure surprised some in the party, who had been expecting more unity. So did I; so this decision to go along with the censure of Green is disappointing, to say the least.
Some Democrats are now saying privately that Green’s antics were viewed as “selfish” after party leaders made clear they wanted their members to act somberly during the address. Again, this is not what we should have expected during this most dire time in our nation’s history when nothing is considered normal anymore. These Democrats seem to be upholding medieval ways of behaving that were fine in the past, but today they are considered ineffectual in this age of insanity under Dump.
Speaking on the House floor later Thursday, Green said he has “no reason in my heart to be upset” over the House’s vote to censure him. He also told reporters on Wednesday that he had no remorse over what he did and said he’d “suffer the consequences” of his one-man protest and that he would do it all over again. He has said he was protesting Dump over the issue of Medicaid. Green wanted it be known that the president did not have a mandate to cut Medicaid. And he certainly did!
The fucker Johnson criticized Green’s behavior during the speech as “shameful and egregious.” Again, this nut job who looks like Clark Kent and who probably is a purveyor of porn in his private life does not remember his own stupid colleagues’ behavior during a similar speech being delivered by Democratic President Joe Biden. Wasn’t the behavior of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert just as “shameful” and didn’t their behavior also disgrace the institution of Congress? But they were never escorted out of the chamber like Green was.
I’m happy to report that I’ve taken baby steps to organize disaffected voters with the results of the last election. I don’t think I’ve written about this before, but I began this project sometime in January, hoping to have an anti-inauguration meeting on January 20 with any members who would have joined the group by that time. I started by registering with the website Meetup.com and called myself an organizer. This is novel for me since I’ve always been a joiner, not a leader. This did not go well since it snowed the day before and at the time of the meeting, I had really no members. So I cancelled it. The site of the first meeting was a local restaurant, Diner Bar, located in Rego Park. Now I was faced with gnawing indecision: what to do next?
I called another meeting for the following week at 1:30 on a Monday afternoon. On that day, I supposedly had one member attending, so I traveled to the diner hoping to meet at least one person. Well, I sat for about an hour and no one showed up, so I ended up having lunch by myself. After these two fiascos, I received some messages from potential members requesting that I change the time of the meeting to accommodate those who work, so I scheduled one meeting in early February at the same restaurant, but this time I scheduled it at 7 p.m. I was determined to make this project work, so I bravely struck out once more for Diner Bar, this time to expect one other member to show up. “Paul” seemed very sincere from the few emails we exchanged. This time I sat for about a half-hour until I was texted by Paul who said he was sitting at the bar. He apologized for arriving late, but he indicated he had a long subway ride. He was coming right from work, and I inwardly thought here was a committed member of the “Defenders of Democracy.” I found him at the bar and escorted him back to the table where I was sitting. We sat for almost an hour discussing how the group could evolve. Listening to him, I learned that he was quite the activist. If I recall, he mentioned he was active in the AIDS fight many years ago. He claimed he had friends who were interested in the group.
Now I’ve scheduled another meeting, this time on a Saturday and during the day, at Albert’s Bar, located on East 41st Street. So far, I’ve garnered 23 members since the group was launched. However, only three individuals replied to my posting. Altogether, there will be four people at this site on Saturday and I’m now in the process of assembling something to show those who do show up. I’m shocked that I had even three people who expressed interest in going. I’ll let you know what happens – if anything – on Saturday.
And so it went!
