And So It Goes

Today is Tuesday, March 11, 2025. It’s getting late here, owing to my meeting my friend “Seth” in Manhattan, at the Palace, located at East 57th Street. We spent a long time just shooting the breeze as well as having our dinner. From there, we walked to The Townhouse, a gay bar located on East 58th Street.

This piano bar is located up a flight of stairs and has been in business for over 30 years. I used to go to this bar when I was much younger. However, when I entered the bar this time with Seth, I was immediately struck by the realization that I was now nearing the age of the majority of white-haired gentlemen lounging around the premises. It was a jarring jolt of reality which made me uncomfortable. I didn’t mention this to Seth at the time, but I just held it in. We had two nonalcoholic drinks, walked to the room that had the current piano player/singer holding court and sat down at a fluffy couch. The men milling around the bar seemed to not listen to the singer whose name I failed to notice. The time was close to 9, I believe, so this would have been considered too early for it to get jumping. We asked the barkeep when they closed, and he answered the bar closed at 2. Over the weekends, the bar closes at 4, he informed us. When we finished our drinks, we decided to leave.

We walked to our respective train stations, with Seth saying goodbye at 59th Street to take the N home and I repaired to 63rd Street to take the F home. Lucky me! A train was just pulling into the station as I approached the platform. I didn’t have to wait at all. Even at this time, the train was crowded and I had to stand.

Tomorrow I should be here, even though I’m going to be out for most of the day celebrating my dear friend Harold’s birthday by taking in a play with him and his wife “Rachel” at the TKTS booth in Times Square. We’re meeting at 12 and then having dinner after the matinee. We don’t know what play we’re seeing until we arrive at the ticket booth. So it should prove to be interesting then. The temperature tomorrow is expected to be somewhat cooler than today: with temps in the 50s. It should be tolerable to wait on line then.

And so it went!
